According to the USFS web site Tortilla Flats is open Oct 1 thru Mar 31.
Reservations or POS.
We're staying at Lost Dutchmen again this year over Christmas. - mockturtleExplorer IIIt would be nice if campground web sites were kept up to date, wouldn't it?
- scrubjaysnestExplorerWe like the Chile there also along with a draft Snake Venom.
- Desert_CaptainExplorer IIIRoy,
The saddle second from the left is my personal favorite. You might even still be able to discern my particular butt print... Great food all over their menu but the Chile is the best. Be sure and ask for the special {secret} hot sauce they keep in the back... if you dare.

To clarify... there is a State Campground, Tortilla Flats, that was closed due to budgetary considerations several years ago. It is extremely vertical and the sites are small but some of the views are worth your time.
The CG obviously remained in place and I would love to hear confirmation that it is now reopened. Tortilla Flats is just east of the CG in question and while not much more than a wide spot in an already skinny road, it is a lot of fun. The local bar/burger joint is a hoot featuring saddles instead of barstools and they have some of the finest Chile on the planet.
The best CG nearby is Lost Dutchman SP, been there many times. Both are just outside of Apache Junction. As noted there is a CG at Canyon Lake but it is obscenely overpriced {just a parking lot and not much else}.

Been in the restaurant/bar many times...

They also have the walls lined up with dollar bills and people's name written on the money.
You would find a whole bunch of us in there eatingt their good chilly even on the hottest days haha...
This is where the GOOD PAVED road part of Apache trail ended coming out of Apache Junction. Hope it is all still there...
Roy Ken - Executive45Explorer IIIC'mon guys (and gals to be politically correct) EVERYONE knows there's only ONE Tortilla Flat. All the rest are imposters....:B:B:B.....Dennis

Tonto Forest Tortilla Campground
"The Tortilla Campground in the Tonto National Forest (TNF) closed several years ago. It is close to the town of Tortilla Flat, AZ.
One of the reasons it closed is its obsolete wastewater treatment plant. The cost of improving it is around $500,000."
