Tow vehicle

I need to replace my tow vehicle. My Cavalier was parked in front of my office and some woman hit it headon at high spped and totaled it.
I am looking at a 2011 Chevrolet HHR. Has anyone had any experience owning or towing one?
  • Thanks everyone, just what I wanted to hear.:C I pick it up today. It is a 2011 with 37,000 miles, I'm excited about the new tow. Drug the 2002 Cavalier for 40,000 miles with 0 problems. I became very attached to it as I become attached to about everything I have. The HHR is silver I think it will look good behind the silver and white Tradewinds.
  • I had a 2006 LS that we towed about 18K miles, and just upgraded to a 2007 LT. Great car! I did the switch replacement for the fuse that needs to be pulled, just to make it easier. Blue Ox tow bar and Blue Ox Patriot complete my package.
  • We have a 2011 and it is perfect for us. Have all Blue Ox equipment and a fuse switch by the fuse panel. Tow Daddy makes a real easy to install rear lights harness. Plug and play by the rear battery and tail lights. Lots of storage when back seat is down. 2011 is last year of production, but you can still find good ones. We have owned 4 since 2007.
  • We bought an '06 when they came out. Great toad, weighed approx. 3300#, installed an inline switch to the #8 5 amp fuse so we wouldn't have to remove the fuse, put the car in neutral and you were ready to roll. Towed it close to 50K miles for seven seasons. We ended up trading on an Equinox for my old arthritic body.
The last year for production of the HHR was 2011, they were basically the same car thru all the years.

  • We have a 2007 HHR 2LT. Last September and October we did a 5900 mile round trip from California to New York with no problems. Total of 63,000 miles plus 9500 towed miles. Used Blue Ox tow bar and base plate. Fun car to drive. Ed
  • I have a 2009 HHR LT automatic and have had zero issues with it until yesterday. Radio all of a sudden will only come through two tiny speaker instead of all of them.

A couple of years back ran over a pipe on the interstate. Drove it another 30 miles and when pulled into a rest stop noticed it was leaking tranny fluid. Cranked it up and it quit leaking so drove it another 60 miles to home. Had it towed and the fixed the damaged pan cover. It's been another 20k miles and no issues. Very pleased with the little car.

I have not towed it, but see quite a number of them being towed.
