Towing Question

Good evening:),

Own a 1989 Nissan standard cab, 4wd, 4 cyl., beat up pick-up I want to tow behind a 460 HP Ford powered, 22.5 ft Class-C RV.
Am being told conflicting ways to set the transfer case and gearbox. Would like input from folks that have been there and wear the T-shirt! Drive safely.:B

God Bless

  • If you happen to have the owner's manual, it should tell you. I found a factory service manual online and it doesn't think you should tow it very far or very fast will all 4 on the ground. Here the link: http://www.nicoclub.com/manuals/Hardbody/d21_truck_1989.pdf

Look at page GI-23 which is page 25 of the pdf.
  • Do not have Nissan, however it is normal done by putting transfer case in neutral and the transmission in forward gear. Suzuki says second, however some people say fourth if not overdrive.
This is done so the gears in the transmission do not turn.
