You might be confusing the VA side of Assateague via Chincoteague which is about an hour away from the MD side of Assateague near OC. By boat it's a few minutes, by car/RV they are about an hour apart. There is a MD and VA side of Assateague IS. Wallops is on the Chincoteague side and you have to go through Chincoteague to get to the VA side of Assateague.
