TruSteer

I will be installing a new Tru Steer made by Blue Ox, on our
2007 Holiday Rambler Neptune. Really hope this stops the wander
and unstable ride....

  • "Old Blue"......Sorry, but to start, the R4R chassis on that coach is the number one problem. No MATTER what you do to it, it will be a rough riding chassis. Our friends have the same coach. I started with adjusting their Ride Height and making sure the tire pressure was as low as it could go without causing tire damage. Then the shocks were replaced with Koni FSD's. This made the coach better, but not great.

In the past year some engineering has been taken on to solve the handling of particularly, the RR8R chassis, the chassis line above yours. Two things were found. The Shepard steering box was a large cause of the wandering ills of the coach. TRW makes a direct replacement that solves many issues. Second, the large "H" configuration of the Roadmaster chassis has always moved around, especially on the rear and caused wander issues. There are two people making "panhard" bars that tighten the rearend up like a tracbar does on a gasser. I don't know if anyone has created the "panhard" bars for the R4R chassis.

Lastly, I installed the TruCenter on my Diplomat and loved it. I didn't have wander issues on my coach, but the way that the TruCenter adjusts your steering for road crown and wind really makes a difference in how you feel at the end of the day. You're not worn out from making steering corrections for 6-8 hours. You'll like the improvement.

Make sure that when you install the TruCenter switch, that it's within reach of your hand so you can blindly reach down and tap it. I bought a momentary switch that matched my other Monaco switches and installed it next to the exhaust brake switch. You can't see them, but the Monaco panel next to your left leg has additional switch positions already precut into the panel. You have to remove it to see them from the underside and then cut them the rest of the way through.
  • Like I said everything has either been replaced (trailing arms$$$$$) ride enhancement (sp) new tires,,,,,this is the last thing I am going to put on
the M/H I hope for a long time.....Thanks for all the useful information.

  • I tried the TruCenter unit to deal with my 8 bag Roadmaster wandering issue and it didn't help at all. What worked on mine was replacing the steering box.
Read this lengthy thread for information about the Roadmaster steering box issue that may be the answer for your Roadmaster wandering issue.
Steering Box Play- Sheppard M100 SHIM or Swap for a TRW ?
  • Bill,

Does that include new rear trailing arms (my link above)?
  • Thanks ,,,,blueberry 1964b , thank you for the information. All else has been checked, inflated, replaced, straightened etc. that can be done.

  • Installed a Safe-T-Plus steering stabilizer on our 2003 Neptune. Keeps the RV from being tossed around in high winds or when meeting a semi. Helped a great deal.
  • Before you start adding bandaids, be sure your tires are correctly inflated for the ACTUAL load on them (have you gotten 4 corner weights) and that the alignment is correct (with lots of caster).

    Tru Center?
  • Doubt that will do it by itself. Check tire inflation and consider rear trac bar
