Turn signals

On our way to Florida from Michigan and just before we got off the highway for the day our turn signals quit working on our 2005 Ford E450 chassis motorhome. We are towing our car. Haven't checked the car's
Turn signals yet to see if they work.
When set up for towing separate bulbs were installed in the toad and wiring from moho was run to the turn signal bulbs to operate them.
I replaced the 10 amp fuse under the moho dash but it didn't fix it.
Any ideas?
I see there is a higher amp fuse in the fuse box in the engine compartment and one fuse spot is labeled "towing turn signals". Could that possibly be it?

Thank you.
Yup, nobody got hurt, nothing was damaged that couldn't be fixed, and it got done.

Well, on second thought, I guess i did get hurt on the fall after tripping over the power cord in the dark but that's an unrelated saga. ๐Ÿ˜‰

That switch has to deal with the rear turn signals (if they are Red) a little differently than the fronts. Makes troubleshooting difficult. Then there's the airbag. No place to go without surefire knowledge of how to safety it. That's good reason to let a professional handle it. Many auto repair forums won't provide help if the work involves an airbag. I'm just glad his diagnosis was correct and the repair got you going again.

I had a mobile truck repair service out this morning. He worked at it for awhile and finally determined it was the directional switch.
He was able to find one locally in stock and installed it.
Everything works.
Of course it cost an arm and a leg.....

MIne has a separate 20A for the toad lights. It is up front in the engine area

Yes, the main power to the relays must be good.
Try checking for function power at the connector with the ignition switch or of MH running.
Test the lights on the toad via added wiring by applying 12 volt to each wire from the battery of the toad using a jumper wire.

If there was one wouldn't it affect all power to the toad if it was blown?
The running lights work on the toad, powered thru the trailer connection.

No, the trailer connector fuses should not effect the MH lights. The relays if the coil is burnt to ground could, though doubtful.
There should/ could be a larger amerage fuse for the power to the contacts on the trailer connector relays.

I do have the manual. I did not check any other fuses other than the moho turn signal and trailer tow turn signal fuse.
I do see a trailer battery charge relay, a trailer tow running lamps and back up lamp relays (running lights works in toad), and a trailer tow electric brake, center high mounted stop lamp, brake lamps fuse.
Would any off these affect or disable the turn signals on the moho if they were blown?
I also see there is an engine compartment relay module which has four relays of which two of them are trailer tow right turn and trailer tow left turn. Manual says to only have a certified technician or dealer service this module. There again if these two were bad would it disable the moho turn signals as well as the toad's signals?

Did you check all the towing fuses? There is at least three.
Do you have an owner's manual to look up the fuses?

I see comments online about a loose grounding wire being a possible problem. Is there a ground wire for the signals?
If so, where is it?

I wondered about the directional switch. The lever just feels a little different when activating the signals than it did before this issue.
How is this switch determined to be bad?

I replaced the 20 amp towing turn signal fuse in the power distribution box this morning, even though the existing one looked fine, but it didn't help.
The running lights on the toad work fine. The running lights and brake lights work fine on the moho.

Now that I know you are using the trailer connector, the fuse under the hood is subject. Verify that you have only one operating the taillights and one for each turn signal function. Some also have a control fuse for taillight, stoplight and turn signal functions.

When my turn signals stopped working. Checked with toad unhooked and checked bulbs in tail lights. Problem was the directional switch which is the lever you use to turn the directionals on. New from ford dealer was a little expensive so ordered from internet and had my mechanic replace it.
