I went through there a while back when the price was lower (dating myself) had no problems I did unhook the toad because I was over 50 feet long combined my height was within 6 inches all went well.

The only tight spot for me was the exit on the east side the diamond shaped traffic signs and my mirrors matched up perfectly and the clearance left to right was very tight.

We were there last spring, the ranger just barely allowed us to go through. They have markings on the pavement at exactly 50'. we are about 50'9". He cautioned us more about the switchbacks, than the tunnel regarding length.

Made it through fine and took our time on the switchbacks. Since we were first in fairly long line, I pulled over after the tunnel to let the other vehicles pass before heading down.

I would guess since you are at 36' with a toad, you will be too long unless you unhook and have someone else drive the car. Regardless, enjoy your visit the area is beautiful.

Obtaining a Tunnel Permit

Have your vehicle measured at the entrance station when you arrive at the park. Any vehicle that is 7 feet 10 inches (2.4 meters) in width and/or 11 feet 4 inches (3.4 meters) in height or larger is required to have a tunnel permit.
Pay $15.00, in addition to the park entrance fee, for the tunnel permit at the entrance station before proceeding to the tunnel.
Drive to the tunnel during the tunnel hours of operation (posted seasonally).
Tunnel traffic control will be provided by friendly NPS rangers.
Your $15.00 tunnel permit is good for two trips through the tunnel for the same vehicle within seven days of purchase.
Prohibited Vehicles
Vehicles over 13 feet 1 inch tall, Semi-trucks, vehicles carrying hazardous materials, vehicles weighing more than 50,000 pounds, single vehicles over 40 feet long, combined vehicles over 50 feet long. All Bicycles. Pedestrians.

I found the tunnel a bit oppressive feeling, in that it's largely unlit and quite long. Odd, tunnels don't usually make me feel uncomfortable, but that one did. Guess I'd make a lousy coal miner.

You aren't 'escorted' through it, you drive single file down the middle. Many RVers do it. If your RV is within the stated allowed dimensions then you'll have no problem except for the climb from Zion's valley floor up to the tunnel. Only you know how your RV would handle on a steep climb - or how you would do. :)

By the way, all national parks/monuments have an excellent web site such as this with lots of good information on things to do, camping, roads, etc. Check them out before you go.

Also, the best crossing for big RVs from I-15 to Hwy 89 is to take Hwy 20 at Circleville, UT. Do not take Hwy 14.

Before you get to Virgin, where are you driving from? There are options around that whole area. Where will you be staying to visit Zion?

We were there a few weeks ago and drove that route in our car (we camped in Virgin). Tons of class C's, B's, and shorter class A's doing that tunnel every day all day. As far as the "switch backs" getting up to the tunnel they were not imposing to me. Fairly steep but I think we have encountered steeper and certainly longer. It is not a "long" climb to the tunnel.

Yes, they do charge $15 for your MH as they say that they have to close the tunnel for you to go thru. But they close the tunnel anyway whether its just car/pickups or MHs. So essentially a stupid tax. We went through that way to Page Arizona about 3 years ago, with a toad, and not problems. By the way, the coolest day was 102 and the air conditioners shut off only 1 morning at 6:AM for about an hour, then came back on. Try to enjoy.

As @CloudDriver pointed out, the tunnel is in the park, and if your rig cannot go through it, there are no ways around it. With a big rig, I wouldn't even think of going that way.
