Visiting Yellowstone in May??

Should be fine, maybe still a bit cold. Sure seems like a early spring this year. Looks like Grizzly RV park opens on May 5th this year.

Mid May 5" of snow in West Yellowstone last year. Twomed has some good info, especially if you search more than the last year. Many years the south entrance will NOT be open until June. You will not have to worry about crowds, just what's open. Take a heavy jacket as winter is not over yet. If it is a early Spring then you may really luck out.

Be prepared for any kind of weather.

We were there the third week in May, last year, only time we could get a spot at Fishing Bridge where WE like to stay. We had pretty good weather with a little bit of snow at the higher passes and some rain. All in all, we were there a week and it was nice.

As long as you're driving that far, make sure you do a couple of days in the Grand Tetons and visit Jackson Hole. There is a nice (good location) campground in Jackson Hole which is perfect for seeing Jackson and the Tetons. It's called the Wagon Wheel RV park.

This has been a warm winter in Wyoming. Could get bad in the spring but with the el nino we have had warmer weather than some of AZ this winter. We're at 50 degrees today at 5000 ft.

Every year will be different. You'll probably have warm days and cool nights with a possibility of light snow. It wont' last long though and will be beautiful. You'll also see many newborn critters.

I remember heavy snow on the 4th of July about 50 years ago. Most of the campers ended up abandoning their tents, etc. They plowed the roads, but it took a group effort to get the cars out of the campground.

It can snow there then, but nothing to worry about the Park Crew is really good about keeping the roads clear in the High Country. The roads will be plowed before day break! And it can get a little chilly at night! One year the DW and I went there in mid October just spectacular with all the fall colors. It was 70* during the day and very low 30*s at night and it would snow every night. The Buffalo's were dragging there bellies in the snow in the high country but, the roads were bare! We alway's stayed at Mammoth Hot Springs (Nat'l Park Campground) everything we need is there Store, gas, restaurant etc. and we alway's seen more animals in the Northern part of the Park.
