washing detergent

What kind of washing detergent do you guys use, and where do you buy it? We have a Splendide washer/dryer combo, and my wife insists we need to use their detergent, which is quite pricey once you have it shipped. Is there a good reason to use the Splendide brand, and if so, have you ever found it in a store?

Interesting. Did you try doing a load of bleach? Mine has a bleach setting that does nothing but clean the washer and drain.

We ran empty loads with just bleach. We ran loads with just water. Finally read an article about liquid soap. So we started using using a minimal of soap and after a few loads the stink went away. Since then the washing machine has also went away and we went back to a top loader.

Wife does the washing, mostly but liquid detergents and not the unscented Tide. I hate that smell it has a stink.
Powder detergents leave a residue.

You mean the detergent dispensing hose, don't you? The one that goes from the detergent receptacle to the washing drum? I can see how that might happen.

Those things are designed for standard size wash loads. They are about double what you should be using
Oops, yes, you are correct. We actually have the stacked washer and dryer in our coach that is bigger than the Splendide. It's probably not a good idea to use these in the smaller washer. I read the instructions and these are about right for the loads we do.

We have used Charlie Soap for the last 12-15 years in our sticks and bricks home. It is HE. Works great, you use less than a tablespoon per load. Works great in the Splendide.

X2 on the NO perfumes. They have gotten so bad with adding all these perfumes and now even adding that dang febreeze. :R

I have allergies and it took me forever to figure out is was all the perfumes in soap and the dryer sheets. IMHO 80% of adult/kids allergies are coming from all these companies adding perfumes to everything. Go perfume and dye free with all your soaps and watch the difference in your families health.

I have to hold my breath when walking down the soap isle!

FYI. Know why your clothes smell so nice when you dry them outside?
It's not the fresh air.....it's the sun's uv rays killing 'all' the bacteria left on your clothes. :W

We use the Splendide brand powder. We use so little that it works out to about .10 per load but I suppose any HE powder would work fine.

Can someone tell me what the HE stand for?

High Efficiency - Most new home units, especially front loaders are HE. They use very little soap.

X2

Do NOT ever put regular detergent in a front loader or RV washer!
Don't ask me how I know. It's like those sit coms where the soap comes out the lid and down on the floor like lava! :B

As a result, the detergents used in HE washers need to work differently, too. ... You'll discover how HE washers and HE detergents work . . . and how to properly ...

Look for this logo on the detergent bottle.
