Detergents

Not sure what type of dishwasher and clothes washer detergents are safe to use. And, where is the best place to buy these?
  • All washers now should us the HE detergent??????
At any rate use liquid detergents.
Everyone my age recalls seeing deposits of soap powder, in areas of washing machines etc.
I use liquid bath soap too in shower at home and on the road.
If you use bar soap or long you will notice soap film. Of course with liquid you may too but we wipe the shower down every time.

We have a front loader at home and use the HE detergents. When camping, we use the campground top loaders, or a laundry mat. We use the same detergent with both. Works just fine.

The HE is formulated to be low subs. (no or very low bubbles). That's the only difference. It work fine in both types of washing machines.

Yes, HE does work fine in top loaders, but most, not all, residential washers are top loaders, and nearly all RV built in washers are front loaders. Certainly, if you use HE at home, then of course you can use it on the road as well for either type. If you don't use HE at home though, then using your home top loader detergent in a front loader is not recommended.

  • If you have a top load washing machine at home and a typical front load washer in the RV, they may not use the same laundry soap. High-efficiency detergent is specially formulated for use in all front-load washers and some high-efficiency top loaders as well. 'HE' detergent is concentrated and produces fewer suds than regular detergent. This is not RV specific of course, since it applies to all front load washers.
  • Agree with stickdog!

There's REALLY nothing different between your stick house and your RV. Your RV is just an extension of your house. Whatever you use at home, use it in your camper too. There's nothing different or special about RVs and having to have specialized products and items designated "camping". "Camping" designated, or "RV" designated, is just a label so they can charge more. Be practical. Whatever you use at home, use in your RV. If it's sold on the grocery store shelf, its safe for use in an RV.
  • It's like toilet paper, what do you presently use at home and where do you purchase it?
