- path1ExplorerOK still the same as last post, more than 24 hours. They didn't freeze and break.
- mlts22ExplorerI just assume gel packs are like any other potentially nasty stuff if it spills, and pack them in both a Ziploc bag, as well in plastic tub with a good seal. That way, if they do burst (which is quite unlikely), the damage done is little to none.
- path1ExplorerOK report on soap pods in freezer. Soap pods have been in my freezer since previous post. Temps were -4 to 6 according to this handy gadget. They didn't freeze but they are harder to squeeze. Sort of like a jel pack.
- camperforlifeExplorerDo you really think they ship your laundry detergent in heated trucks during the winter? I guarantee they sit on some unheated trucks in some of the coldest places in the country for several hours or days on end and you will never know the difference when you use them.

Soap pods are not water, but they do contain water. Since the lowest temperature it is possible to lower the freezing point of water to by adding "stuff" is 0°F, you might get away without a problem as long as it stayed warmer, but if it goes below zero, you might have a mess.
Where did you get the idea that 0 deg. F is the coldest it can get. The water based antifreeze in you cars won't freeze till -35 or so depending on the concentration. I don't know what the freezing point of soap pods is (but I would think it would be way below zero because there is very little water) and I doubt you will be able to figure it out in a household freezer. To be safe buy them after you get out of the cold weather or keep them warm till you get south. - naturistNomadSoap pods are not water, but they do contain water. - path1ExplorerBeing Santa was kind enough to give me a remote temp gauge for fridge and freezer I'll freeze up some and report back. Right now the readout is 36 and -1. 10:41 my time.
Like any "young" kid I have to play with my new toy :B - Ed_GeeExplorer II

As we prepare to leave the cold Midwest, do I need to protect Tide pods from freezing during travel ? Package doesn't say, at least that I can see. I Googled it and all I found was questions/answers about Pods and pressure of aircraft. Any experience with it in your cold RV ?
Do you have any evidence there would be a problem with soap pods freezing? Pure water freezes at 32 degrees F. but soap pods are not water. I have never heard of soap pods freezing....... We keep ours under the bathroom sink .... and we would never let the inside of our RV get below freezing, anyway . . . . - gboppExplorerOr, buy them when you get to your warm destination.

I'm assuming you have a TT?
Simple answer is I would just put a box of soap that small in your tow vehicle. I wouldn't take a chance. That would be messy.
