Water damage from air conditioner leak

Hi all,

I have a 2003 WRV Alpine 40MDTS that suffered some water damage from an overflowing A/C drip pan.

There were two separate occurrences. The first time the air conditioner had been leaking for a full day before the leak was discovered. The roof was wet as far as 15ft back from the air conditioner with several stains and mild to moderate swelling in a few placed. I cleaned the roof with a water/ammonia solution which removed the stains. The second time it only went a few hours before it was noticed. Water was visible on the roof as far as 5ft from the air conditioner.

I have since gone up on the roof and unclogged the drip pan, replaced the air conditioner mounting gaskets and repaired any cracked seals. My main question is would either or both of those incidents caused enough damage to warrant having a professional come out and inspect for water damage or would I be okay if I just cleaned the stains and ensured that no further leaks occur?

I'll try to post some pictures of the stained and swollen areas tomorrow. I apologize in advanced if that doesn't make much sense, it's been a long day. :)
  • Hi,
If you are quite sure that you can handle it by yourself, then just refer the following air conditioner repair tips. They might help you to resolve your problem. These tips will help you to identify the exact cause of damage. http://hvachome.blogspot.in/2014/07/need-to-repair-your-air-conditioner-try.html
  • Here are a few pictures of the damage. There weren't any soft spots on the roof. There were 1 or 2 spots where the ceiling fabric came unglued though.

Also, what is the best way to clean the stains off the ceiling? I've used a little bissell spot cleaner in the past, but it takes forever when dealing with a large area.

  • I think since you were proactive in getting the cause of the problem fixed you should be OK. I would wait and see if anything changes such as if the coach starts getting a musty smell, the stains return, soft spots and such.
