Good choice, there's way to many great mh's for sale out there to settle on one that may become a big pain in the butte!

A HUGE thank you to everyone, for your comments and advice on the motor home that has been in water. On further investigation, we found out that it came from Pennsylvania!!! Hurricane Sandy?????????? That REALLY makes us nervous.. So we are PASSING on the purchase. There are just toooooo many unknowns that may be hidden and could pop up later.

Well water damage is a serious issue as it would damage lot of tings related to it. You can get mold too so i would suggest you to hire a public adjuster who will file a claim with your insurance company. Before you get any compensation, you have people like the insurance claim adjusters who investigate the policy holder’s losses and report to the insurance company. The insurance adjusters work according to a proper schedule and process a claim in a given format by the company.

I guess you need to look carefully at your coach s wiring. Wires under the floors will often get wet when driving in the rain, so flooding is not a big concern. On my MH, the only significant electrical components below the floor-line are the high current breakers in one of the storage compartments. Properly dried, I wouldn't worry about them much. And if any of these breakers fail, tracking down the problem is about as easy as it gets.

Inverters, UPC and power management devices are all above the floor level. Even so, they got damp in my bathroom flood. No permanent damage.

Electrical problems today, and in the future, from corroded connections, are the biggest problems that come with ALL water damaged vehicles. Most competent mechanics, and DIY's, can deal with mechanical problems and wet floors/walls, but electrical problems, especially badly corroded connection problems, can cause intermittent electrical gremlins to show up in various electrical circuits as well as engine and transmission control boxes. Repairing these issues can be very expensive and very frustrating for the usual mechanic and the hourly labor rate can quickly make that bargain purchase in to a black hole that may never be free of problems.

After having dealt with major floods recently in both my home and motorhome in the past 12 months, I'll offer some opinions for what they are worth.

Motorhomes appear far less impacted by water damage than houses. I am finding the leaky, plastic-infused walls and floors in an RV do not trap as much moisture as 2x4 covered drywall in a house. The only exception: the roof - where careful examination is very important. Not a big surprise, but I think there is a tendency to compare houses to motorhomes.

Bubbled floors and walls seem to be the biggest risk. Hidden damage? Careful inspection with a flashlight and moisture meter will make me happy. When purchasing my next MH, I'll look carefully for physical damage. I can then do a mold test if I think it is warranted. Test kits are under $20.

It really depends on your comfort level and the price and obviously the actual damage. Our motor home was a shallow fresh water flood (the person who had the accident said it reached the bottom of the entry door in the front and the rear wasn't in the water (the motor home was sold at auction by the insurance company, I just manage to track down the previous owner to ask him some questions. There was no incentive for him to hide anything)).

There are some minor issues although none of it seems to be from the water itself (it was also crashed through a guardrail before it got to the water and that caused some damage) but for me, the price was worth it (I paid about 1/4 of low retail but it does have a salvage title). There is some rust on the frame but it really isn't nearly as bad as our previous mh that wasn't a flood. I don't actually see any issues on ours that are actually from the flooding.

I would find out what kind of water, salt or fresh. I would also find out if it has a salvage certificate, or if it was reported and there is a CarFax for flooding. If it was salt water, run. If it has a salvage certificate, or has been reported to CarFax good luck on getting ay insurance on it other than liability. Insurance Companies want nothing to do with them.

If it is cheap enough I would get it If they want telephone numbers for it I would run as fast as I could. take what they want see if it runs and drives and see what it would cost to bring it up to spec. then if it is the same cost as one that was not in water then get something else.
