Unfortunately we cannot travel this winter so M.H. is in storage. Today we went and checked to make sure no mice had taken up residence. All was OK.

Completed bedroom TV installation, installed folding cup holders under window for driver and passenger - the factory holders are crap. Installed toothbrush/cup holder at bathroom sink and soap/shampoo dispenser in shower. Spent the most time trying to figure out how to best install electric water heating kit. Heating element wires are short, where to put on/off switch, thermostat and where to get AC without using ground fault supply. Haven't even installed it yet and thinking about mod #1 - replacing switch with one that is lighted.

what was the brand name of folding cup holders? I'm only finding cheapos around here

I wait till its above freezing so yesterday went to the MH and started it and the generator and let them both run for 30 minutes, with an electric heater running of the generator. I try to do it every month during the winter off season.
Everything started very easily.

Exercised the generator for an hour. The Xantrex dropped the shorepower connection--checking showed that there was only 76 volts at the pedestal! :E

Thank God for the Xantrex!

Took the opportunity to exercise the gen, switched on the AC which we haven't really needed as its only about 84F outside.:C

The upholsterers returned yesterday with our newly re-upholstered dinette cushions and trim. Now we don't have to sit on folding chairs! The couch was done a few weeks ago.

Marine exterior grade vinyl, in colour a very close match to the captain and co-pilot chairs.

In general, an electrician is not who I would ask about RFI (radio frequency interference). It's like asking a truck mechanic about tuning a sports car.

Things worth trying:

Put a .01 uF (10nF) capacitor across the output leads, and from each to ground, as close as possible to the converter/charger.

Put ferite beads on all the wires coming from the converter/charger. The split style that claps over a cable (sometimes included with computers) should work fine.

Make sure your ground wire on your converter/charger is short and well connected.

None of the parts should be more than a couple of dollers, even at a place that overcharges like radio shack.

Had to replace the little knobin the entry stairway that the door piston fastens to. The old one,2 months, broke in the windstorm in Death Valley in Nov and the one before that lasted a month. Bought another 2 pak,$3.57,and hope that they last a bit longer.
While I was doing that,I noticed that there was moisture under the bottom rubber step and when I lifted it up,found that the wood was all coming apart and the carpet around the bottom was starting to rot.Sooo,it looks as if I'll be putting laminate in the stepwell and replacing the door seals as there was water runnning down the door frame.I wanted to do that anyway, but the DW thinks the carpet looked better,so now I get to do it.
The carpet on the step cover slide looks ok,so I think that I'll leave that alone.

Since we are currently living on board didn't think I would have anything to post, goes to show you.

The nut and lock washer that hold the driver side wiper to the arm (Fleetwood setup) fell off while underway. Stopped and saved the screw and wiper blade. Bought a nut and lock washer at the hardware to complete the repair. Trivial so long as you don't loose the special screw and the wiper blade.

DW was cleaning shower and noticed a gap between the sidewall and the tub. Caulking was gone/broken/distressed. Wall seems to have partially delaminated from rear wall of the coach. Not going to address that just now, but I recaulked the walls to the basin to prevent any further water infiltration. The original caulk job looks like it was done by a slob in a hurry. In six years I had not gotten close enough to see the slob job. I guess they figured I would be long gone before I got down on hands and knees in the back of the shower. They were right!

Today the coach is plugged in to charge the batteries so our upcoming subzero weather won't freeze them solid. We don't keep the rig plugged in fulltime because it causes a buzz when we try to listen to our local AM radio station in the house. The electrician said there is very little you can do about that...the battery charger just sends that bugger out there and all we can do is unplugg the coach. So that's how we deal with that.

Our coach is winterized for the season. We've also emptied nearly all the contents in prep work for some redo work and reload for short term travel only not full time living. Sometime in early 2011 we'll clean 'er up and think about a short trip before summer gardening season starts.

We've had an extremely mild and dry winter here with all the storms hitting all around us. But, our turn is coming. As we speak a big storm is lurking to our west. This time we could get what we've missed all season so far. So, it will be a while before we "do" anything to our motorhome! We're going to sit back, let the geothermal run, cuddle up to the woodburning cookstove and enjoy winter.

Hard wired my block heater.

Wow Doc, that sounds like a terrific idea. I hate having to go out side when it's cold and/or raining to plug in that heater cord. Having a switch inside would be even more perfect (wonder why the mfg didn't do this????). I'll have to investigate this mod and see how difficult it's gonna be.

thanks for the idea..

Ron

Well, looked at my unit and just can't seem to find a good way of getting the electrical back up into the living area to locate the switch. Talked to the DW about this to see if she could come up with any method and she looked at me a little strange and then said: "why don't you just put a timer on it, and set it the night before we have to leave"? Sheesh.. don't you just hate it when they prove to you that they are smarter?

Ok, so I guess I'll go buy a timer....

Great job Bob....excellent idea and workmenship. I'll really have to take a good look at mine and see if the same thing is possible. I get so tired of lifting the couch, pulling off the front facade, pulling things out from under the couch, replacing the facade and pushing the couch back down again. Pulling a drawer would be so much easier and cooler. Thanks for the idea.
