What is average spent on 2001 or older motorhome maintenance

It seems like an awful lot to spend. I have a 2001 Beaver Contessa and have owned it for a little over two years now. Only issue I have had is replacing the cooling unit which was out of pocket expense. And the yearly expense for maintenance such as oil,filters,lube....etc!

Seems high but you did not say what you have had repair/replaced. We have a 99 Newmar and only one set of tires and regular filter, Batteries and oil changes. A friend just replace a engine due to not stopping when the light came on.

Excluding tires I look at ~$700.00/yr normal maintenance. Of course I'm not counting elective upgrades and such like new TV's, sat antennae and the like.

I'm sure other things will come up but so far the Beaver has been awfully good.

When you speak of repairs do you mean repairs due to failure of coach structure; systems; appliances, etc., and/or failure of engine-chassis-drive train components?

If so, then yes, it seems a bit excessive.

I am a bit lost here. This is kind of like the average depth of a river. You can drown in a river with an average depth of a foot.
I have an antique motorhome and a minimum year is about 1K$us for tires, lube oil and other regular services. Above that, I do another ~1K/year in upgrades and preventive maintenance.
But, if something actually breaks.... All bets are off.

That's about what I was figuring off the top of my head. Although, sometime I don't believe that I've spent that much. I'm mostly DIY, so my labor time is my own so there is savings there. Overall though, I tend to agree that figuring an average of $700./yr sounds about right.

So, in direct answer to the OP's question, $3000./yr does seem high.

We have a 2000 coach and spent between $2 - $3,000 the first year as we purchased new tires, had the front end aligned and did some upgrades. Over the 3 years since then, we have spent maybe $500 per year.

The number seems excessively high. I am a DIYer and haven't spent anywhere near $2k in maintenance in the five years that I've owned my rig. This year will be the exception with new tires. Now if you are considering voluntary upgrades, like two stereos, subwoofers, three TV's, soundbar, tile backsplash kitchen & bath, LED lighting to name a few, then I'm probably pretty close to that as a one time expense.

If you factor in fuel, tires, batteries, annual service etc. then, yes that could be a reasonable amount. I budget 2k/yr for my maintenance kitty. Figure tires are 8X600= $5000 tax n mounting, divided by 7 is $715/yr alone. Batteries last about 5-6 years @ 200 ea X 6 = 1200, so that's another $200/yr.... I've yet to exceed my budget..hope this helps.....Dennis

Do you do your own work or hire it out?

Have you factored in tires/not factored in tires?

Do you keep on top of Preventive Maintenance or "only fix what is broken"?
