Where to take Onan Generator

Caledonia RV has removed the generator (Onan) from my motor home twice and attempted to find an fix an oil leak three other times.

I paid for all those attempts and am currently trying to get a refund on that work.

I have learn my lesson the hard way at three different service centers. At each one it has turned out that I know more than they do about repairing items.

I have goggled Onan service and Cummins comes up.

After my next trip to Florida I want to pull the generator out and take it and get it "restored" to original condition.

I would do it myself, but it is just to heavy to work with.

I have a place I can pull it out, and access to a fork lift to put it into my truck.

I am willing to travel 150 miles in one direction to get HIGH quality work.

I'm in Rochester NY.

Suggestions?

    Cummins bought the Onan generator company several years ago.

    There are several Cummins "Coach Care" facilities around the county.

    We have used Cummins Coach Care many times in and are very pleased with the work they do. If you want a good one in Florida, we like the one in Ocala: 321 SW 52nd Ave. Ocala, FL 34474 Ph. 352-861-1122. They have electric and water hookups in the back where you can stay while they work on your RV. I would make an appointment. You can go in the night before the appointment and stay the night after the appointment if they are not full up.

    I was just wondering, do you have an idea of where the oil leak is emanating from? I kind-a chuckle when I see the pics of yours out and on the forks of the fork lift. You see, I have had to do some extensive work on our 7.5QD Onan too. It developed a set of problems and since mine is on a slide out tray, I thought I'd take a shot at fixing the problems with it.

    Well, it worked out just fine. But, on yours, I'd like to know just where the oil is coming from. I don't know if I can help you in any way but, you never know.

    Most Onan QD engines are made by Kubota. Parts should be easy to come by. Find which engine model you have and visit a Kubota dealer. They may have some information on the engine.
    If you can pull the generator yourself. I would think you can also repair it.
    I have a QD5500 which has oil leak problems with oil filler hose failures. Not a fun item to repair. Parts are expensive and Onan has upgraded parts to fix the continuing problems. I have a tractor with front end loader and pallet forks for doing the project. But still time consuming.

    Go with Cummins Northeast with locations throughout New England at least you have some out of town coverage or take the unit to Cummins coach care in Buffalo for some nationwide peace of mind

    I wouldnt take that as gospel! Some use Cat engines....some use Kubota engines and some use a different engine altogether!

    You might try Tracey Road Equipement in Henrietta NY. They are a Freightliner Service Center and handle Cummins Engines. They may have someone certified to work on Onan/cummins Generators there. I had them do my annual service on my coach last summer and I was very pleased with the service.

    When you call the worst they can say is no. They also have shops in other parts of the state, but I only know the Rochester shop.
