Why is there a TV over the driver seat?

As my wife and I are looking at class A's have always wondered why there is a TV in the main living area and one over the driver area. How many people would use both?

What is this "TV" thing you speak of? LOL! We have one, but have only watched it maybe twice when we got caught in a flood and a hurricane and couldn't sit outside until bedtime.

I have two side by side in my Bedroom. but in fairness I added the 2nd one as a computer monitor .. There are conditions where I need to be able to watch the TV screen and operate the computer at the same time.. The old TV I could do that (Picture in picture) but the new ones do not have that feature.

I have 4 TV's in my rig. I only have two in my house. You almost get the feeling that they just put a TV on every empty wall space they can find. They are all the same brand as well. When you turn one on, there is at least another that will turn on at the same time with that same remote. Not complaining, just more than we will ever use.

We looked at quite a few that had couches on both sides and that was the only living room TV - and some were huge.

It was on option on ours I see from the brochure.

Now you want to know the real reasons they put in that extra TV.. Ok here goes
There are 3 reasons

1: So we can have this discussion

2: So someone can ask "How do you get it to come on when driving" and we explain you simply plug it into a different outlet

and 3
So some underpaid and overworked can see you driving your multi-hundred thousand house down the road with said TV on and give you a ticket.

If there is no TV there, can't do that.

TV location was one thing I payed attention to while evaluating floor plans, including with the slides in while driving.

Eye level, in front of the seating, not behind other seating, not behind counter tops where you would otherwise sit items.....

The OLD CRT televisions were so large(Deep) that putting them above the driver's seat took up the least amount of usable space.
With today's flat screens, it is much easier to locate a TV anywhere, but people got used to seeing them up above the seats and that is where many have stayed.

We have one above the fireplace in the living room and one up front over head. I sit on the couch so it is natural for me to look at the TV over the fireplace. My wife site in the recliner by the fireplace so it is natural for her to look to the one up front. The sound comes from the home theater system so that doesn't cause any problem.

In a lot of class A's you can not see the mid coach tv with slide in. So if your traveling with kids or others people can still see the front tv.

In the modern world, TV's are cheap and they add bling to a motorhome so manufactures will add them anywhere. I have one in the living room for watching a movie, one in the bedroom for watching the late news while in bed and one outside for Morning news with coffee or Monday night football. While I could get by with one, I don't think I could have to many. One over the dash would give me one to watch while having lunch in a rest area.

I think I remember a RV story once where the buyer ordered a $1m+ motorhome and wanted TV's everywhere such that he used up all the NCC. Some folks are just addicted and can't have too many TV's. Me we have one in the living area. Sometimes I'll bring a small second one and watch under the awning but only during college football season.

They were originally placed in the front over the driver when the only TVs available were tube type. Think how deep a tube tv is. Where would you place it, other than in front, that would not take up a lot of space.

Back up camera?

The Sahara had one over the driver's seat. Originally, it was used as the monitor for the backup camera. Turning on the camera also turned on the inverter!

This configuration made sense then, and also because the recliner that was standard faced the TV. If you sat on the couch (only one recliner so someone needed to sit there), you got a crick in your neck looking left and up all the time.

We pulled out the recliner and the associated lamp table and put in a lift cabinet with a 32" LED TV directly across from the couch. I used the wood from the lamp table to rebuild the old TV overhead cabinet so that it looked like the other 23 up front. This also opened up the living room area and made much more room for moving around. This is important in an old bus with no slides.
