Lighten up Bill. All of his posts are just as lengthy. He is just trying to share some knowledge. Personal attack not needed.wa8yxm wrote:

I have read a few posts about people replacing their in motion sat with a Winegard Traveler. Curious why they're doing it.
Not sure what cables the Winegard needs, Bill can respond if he spots this.
However this question I can answer.. In days of old when folks were bold DirecTV used one satellite, Dish used two, and some (many) domes were set to work with just those 3 birds.....
Some with just one, (They needed a long time to switch birds and often manual input)
Some with 110/119 Dish pair, swiftly swithing between them
Some could do all 3.
But 129 was not on the menu (or is it 127) the new 3rd Dishnetwork bird.
THUS if you want HDTV you have to either
1: Use a ground mount dish type antenna
or
2: Subscribe to DISHNETWORK and upgrade your dome.
I suspect that, just like me, no one has any idea what you are talking about here! :?
As an aside, if you don't know anything about the OP's question (will it work with the existing cables) why are you trying to muddy the waters with this rambling post? I usually do that when I have finished my 2nd drink at cocktail time. Not sure what your motivation is. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIThe new DirecTV Trav'ler has SWM built-in so whether you are Dish or DirecTV these days you only need one coax run to any receiver.

The 2002 KVH dish stopped connecting to the satellite in Jan 2013. KVH said I needed to upgrade to a newer unit!!
Did you check the voltage at the dish? The long run from the battery can cause a drop in voltage along with any weak connections. If the dish has low voltage it will just keep hunting. I found when plugged into shoreline, the generator running, or engine running that the extra voltage was enough to make it work. Drove me crazy. Solution was installing a power supply in the overhead cabinet.
As for the Travler using Direct TV mine had several coax connections and I ran all of them. I did not buy the SWM model so needed two connections to each of my receivers.
If you have any overhead speakers or light fixtures in the area of the roof you are installing the dish remove them for help finding a path for the cables. Using one of the coax cables as a pull wire may be possible but is likely going to be a slow and painful process no matter what. - RodzExplorerThe reason I asked is because my new MH is in the shop now getting a dome installed. HD isn't that important to me and when I take my grand kids, they like to watch tv to keep them occupied when we're traveling. I had a dome in the one I traded in on this one and it worked just fine for the 5 yrs I had it. When I'm out enjoying the MH watching tv isn't a priority. I can do that at home.
Thanks for the response.
Bob - JetAonlyExplorerWhen I installed mine last summer, you could have easily used the existing cable as long as you run the control cable. There is a 4 port splitter to be mounted inside. route it as needed.

Now I have to figure out how to get the control box cable run down thru the roof to the power outlet in my overhead cabinet where all the existing wiring for my receiver hook is located.

I have a roof mounted KVH in motion sat dish and want to replace it w/ a new Winegard Traveler. MY question is will the existing prewired KVH cables/wires (and inside switch box Newmar installed) work on the traveler without adding any new ones?
Do you have DISH or DirecTV?
I have DirectTV and presently use my home SD receiver. I will be using my H24-700 HDTV receiver when I install the traveler!
