Well, you want to avoid a place that will get any direct sunlight, which would give you a false temperature reading. The space under the overhang may be OK, but it may also radiate absorbed heat, if the metal on the cab gets hot.
You could try mounting it in different places for awhile, to see if it makes a difference?
My first thought was to mount it under the RV, but away from any exhaust or other source of heat.
Maybe I'm over-thinking this? Does it really matter if it's off by a few degrees? You are just trying to get a feel for what the temperature is outside, not break it down to the fractional degree, right?
