Your thoughts on a MH

We are just starting to research ideas for making the move from our 5th wheel to a Class A Pusher.

What are your thoughts about a 2002 Monaco Executive 42' (not sure of the model number). But it is a 500hp, tag axle, 10 air bag suspension with 2 slides(one large one). 32k miles. Asking $115k

It is listed on Craigslist in the Lexington, SC area.

Just like to know what your thoughts are on this unit. Unfortunately, I am very uneducated in the world of Motorhomes and appreciate your input.

Thanks for the help,

If I had to replace my Dynasty it would be with a slightly newer Exe. I posted recently at 10 years of age I see no reason why m;y Dynasty will not go another 10+ with very few problems. I love my 10 airbag tag and 750 mile days are a pleasure. It probably has AquaHot. Girrard awning plus alum covers on all the other awnings. A 10K generator and three AC/heat pumps.
You can buy a 04 Dynasty for $115K with more miles so $115K and 32K put's it a little high if it does not have new tires.
*Having pulled it up, unfortunately the LR slide does not go out as much (34") as a 03 will. With just one slide in the LR the extra 14" makes a big difference. May not be the same one as the one in Mt. Sterling has 72K miles... Not the same one and cannot find it.
Found a 03 with the bigger slide.
  • Can someone tell me what the different lines of motorhomes that Monaco makes(inexpensive to expensive)? What is a dynasty vs an executive, or any other model from Monaco for that matter. What is the structure look like within Monaco?

Also, how does Monaco compare to the larger picture as compared to other manufactures?

    Thanks for the info.
  • We have a Country Coach. The man who started Country Coach had previously been involved in starting Monaco. They used to be made right down the road from each other in Junction City Oregon. Now Monaco is in Indiana. Country Coach and Monaco motor homes are very similar. We love ours. In my humble opinion Monaco from the year you are looking at (same year as our 42' coach) is a great motorhome. Our 42' floor plan is very livable.

In the early 2000's it was Dip (330HP), Dynasty (400), Exe (500+), and top of the line Sig (500+ HP). Diplomats are non tag (RR8R) and the rest are tag and 10 airbags( RR10S). In those years a Dynasty gave the most bang for the buck as an Exe is pretty much just a Dynasty with a bigger engine (nice but not necessary) and a fancier ceiling plus some options standard.
The Sig got the bigger LR slide in 2002, Exe in early 03, and Dynasty in late 03. Four slides did not start until 03.
By the mid 2000's Monaco, Beaver, Safari, and HR were all pretty much the same with different engines. Monaco and HR came with Cummins (an exception was an Exe with a Detroit). Beaver's came with Cat engines and in the higher HP was not a plus starting in 05 with the Acert engines.
The newest Monaco (#3) just came out with a Dynasty that no longer uses 10 airbags and has IFS. Monaco #2 still had excellent customer support... no idea about #3 but the customer support 800# is still active.
  • I would just caution you when you are looking at any unit with Aqua Hot. You should have it checked out by a qualified/ certified AH tech. We looked at a few that needed to be replaced at the tune of $8K! They are a wonderful system and we love ours but improper winterization can kill them.
You can go online to the Monaco website and pull up the factory brochures on most models to get the specs for comparisons of the different units.
