- caseyhowardExplorerO sounds good
- HalmfamilyExplorerI use a can of Busch Country Style baked beans add an onion, some pepper, ketchup and brown sugar. Let simmer on low for an hour and wow are they good. We like ours a little sweeter. Quick and easy and not the boring can flavor. My kids will eat these by the pan full, just stay away from them later in the day :-) .
- Dick_BExplorerIs it possible that you eat too much canned beans?
- twins89ExplorerI use one can Grandma Brown baked beans and one can of Bush's original. Mix together. Add a few teaspoons of a "chicken wing" sauce or BBQ sauce. Heat and serve. Easy and good.
- BassmanExplorerHere's a recipe for some of the best baked beans you ever ate. If you bake these in the oven, use a couple teaspoons of liquid smoke.
WICKED BAKED BEANS
(Beans that will even make Chili Heads happy)
6-8 strips of bacon cut into 1/2 inch squares
1/2 Medium onion, diced
1/2 Bell pepper, diced
1 - 2 Jalapeño Peppers, diced (seeding is optional)
2-28 ounce cans Bush’s Baked Beans (original)
1-20 ounce can of pineapple chunks, drained
1 Cup Brown Sugar, packed
1 Cup ketchup
1 Tbs. dry (ground) mustard
Sauté bacon pieces in fry pan until crispy and remove from pan with a slotted spoon. Sauté onion, bell pepper and jalapeño pepper until tender.
In a large mixing bowl combine beans, pineapple, brown sugar, ketchup and dry mustard. Stir in bacon pieces and vegetables. Pour into a 12X9 or a deep 9X9 aluminum baking pan.
Place in a 220-250° smoker for 2 1/2 – 3 hours (make sure temperature of the baked beans reaches 160° ) or place in a 350° oven and bake for 1 hour.
NOTE: If you are making these beans as a side dish for Kansas City style pork ribs, smoke the removed skirt meat for 1-1 1/2 hours, then dice the skirt meat and stir into the Baked Beans. - sdianel_-acct_cExplorerMy mom used to make Hawaiian Baked Beans. Beans, bacon, onion, 1 can crushed pineapple with juice and small amount of brown sugar.
In Large iron skillet, brown bacon, drain except small amount of bacon drippings. Saute onion, add beans, pineapple and brown sugar. Sometimes she cooked them on top of the stove and sometimes she put them in the oven. Cook about an hour. - SchertzExplorerThank goodness for splenda brand brown sugar for us type 2 diabetic baked bean connoisseurs.
I recommend cooked pinto beans, bacon, catsup or bar-b-q sauce, mustard, onion and splenda brown sugar in a quantity one likes and microwave or bake till ....done
Pinto beans can handle more cooking/baking with turning to mush.
That's the healthy route - and you get the fiber with your ga*. - Leo_BensonExplorerPosted: 02/14/10 09:30am Link | Print | Notify Moderator
New England Baked Beans
2 Large cans B&M baked beans. (If you can't find B&M, Bush's might be OK, but avoid any beans with tomato products in them)
1 large onion, diced small
1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup your favorite mustard (I like Woeber's or Jack Daniels)
1/3 cup Jack Daniels
1 tsp liquid smoke (unless of course you're smoking them)
Put molasses and onion in microwave safe bowl and nuke for a few minutes on half power until onions are soft. Add sugar, mustard, JD, smoke, and stir. Heat thru. Put beans in baking dish, stir in "sauce". BAke at 300 for several hours, stirring occasionally.
Options:
add a can of drained crushed pineapple
or
add a package of lil smokies or diced kielbasa
or
add diced bacon to top an hour before removing from oven, turn on to broil for the last few minutes if you need to crisp it.
This also works in a crock pot or a dutch oven.
