Dining out on the road

I have read a number of informative and helpful posts on here about cooking while RVing but I have not seen much as far as must try restaurants and eateries while traveling.

When we finally start taking the big trips to new areas I plan to bring the crock pot and other cooking implements, but I am very excited to try some of the restaurants we've seen on television and magazines.

What are some of your finds and recommendations for cooking weary travelers?

I will start by making a couple of local suggestions for Charleston area and Myrtle Beach.

In the Charleston area - Mt. Pleasant to be exact you must try Jack's Cosmic Hotdogs. Great stuff there. Also in Mt. Pleasant is Melvin's Barbecue. Down the road in Charleston (you need alternative transportation because they are in town you will find Poogan's Porch and Jestine's Kitchen. Venture over to North Charleston and try Jim N Nick's BBQ is really good. Further heading up to the Myrtle Beach area Stop in at the Litchfield Fish House - best Oyster Po Boy ever! In Murrells Inlet Nance's Seafood Restaurant is good and in Surfside you've gotta get a burger at River City Cafรฉ and a hot dog at Joey Dogg's. If you want to go all out the best of the buffets is Crabby Mike's in Surfside. Get the fresh cooked fish just out of the fryer and skip the hot bar with the casseroles and baked fish.

Want a little Southern Charm try Crady's in Conway. Off the beaten path but just like the tea rooms Grandma took you to. Seafood in Myrtle Beach? Sea Captain's house. Ocean front and great food.

Your turn - what have you found during your travels?
Looking forward to new adventures and new friends.

I copied all, of those, mentioned here. When we go somewhere, we try to connect, with someone, familiar with the area. At Rallies there is always someone that knows the area.
We write down all the places we visit, that are good experiences and have good food. I posted one or two of them before. I have a notebook around somewhere, probably, in the coach with quite a list.
Can't depend on the Garmin etc so far. Every one of the places on them were long out, of business. Haven't looked on the Road Trip thus far.

We enjoy cooking and shopping at local farmer's markets and groceries. We also enjoy going out and experiencing the local cuisine. We use Yelp. Also foodnetwork.com for suggestions. Get alot of suggestions from watching the food channel and the cooking channel. We have found too many great places to list.

I think one of the best indications a restaurant is good...the crowd. If a place is very busy at normal mealtimes...it is probably good.

Another easy thing...stick with franchises you already like.

You can download the POI for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives from the POI factory and put it in your GPS. I have it, great way to check if there are any locations near by when you are in a new area.

We find that we can cook great food for much less in the RV. We might eat an occasional lunch out but are usually disappointed with the food quality. Much healthier to eat at home. Dining out is a big business since people dislike cooking nowadays. Enjoy!
