Has anyone modified their large patio grill to be taken along full timing? How has it worked out for you? What modifications did you make to make it more useful?I am thinking of taking my large 4 burner Charbroil Grill, taking it off it's stand and removing the side tables so I can use it on the road. I am not impressed by the little portable grills I see at CW and elsewhere. As for hauling it and storing it I will put it on the carrier at the back of my trailer next to my Generator.

How big a grill do you need? If you want portability, you will have to give up some cooking area. Here's a big one however, with roughly 400 square inches of cooking area: #3200 QI have used a Baby Q 200, with about 200 square inches of cooking area for 9 years, and never had space issues when cooking for three adults.Good Luck in your quest.

No clue what your goal is, but since your unwilling to give up your monster home grill, then you have few choices left except to strap it to the back and hope its there when you arrive.

Once you start using the Weber Q, there is a good chance you will also buy one for your house. They are that good.

That is precisely what I do not want, a small portable. It is not sufficient for the kind of cooking I do on a grill. This is why I want my full size one and will modify it.

Here's a big one however, with roughly 400 square inches of cooking area: #3200 Q

I have used a Baby Q 200, with about 200 square inches of cooking area for 9 years, and never had space issues when cooking for three adults.

I have seen other people with large grills on cargo racks. I am sure it can be done. Just have to do a little modification. As you can see most people don't do that but more power to you if that's what you want.

OK folks, don't tell him what you think he should do. He's given this thought and he wants more grilling space! Sounds like you've decided to just use the "working" part of the grill and what you need is a way to raise it high enough so you're safely above whatever table/base you are going to put it on. What about a metal folding table large enough to give you a base. Many of these are available and some are foldable as well. Just a thought.

Instead of modifying the grill, get a cargo rack that fits onto your hitch and securely strap the grill to the hitch rack and your rig. Take the entire grill with you. You can get one with a ramp to roll it onto the rack.

You could probably take it off the stand and then build a small stand out of unistrut, just enough to keep it from heating table to much.

They will keep trying to force him to get a weber q? Seen these post before, instead of a answer they try and push what they like.

X2 on getting a cargo rack for your hitch to haul it. Most of those racks will hold 500#. I've seen other campers with their full size grill on a hitch rack on their motorhomes. I'd be reluctant to mess with modifying the grill because it might destroy its ability to function properly.
