Microwaving baked beans

My DW says she doesn't like to clean up the small pot mess from BBQ baked beans. Can they be microwave heated in a large sandwich baggie then but in a disposable bowl for serving? Any suggestions?
  • I hate baked beans, my husband loves them so when I make them I make them in the microwave and make them only for him. I pick up some microwave dishes cheap and drain the extra sauce from the can. add a little molasses and onions. Put in the container with something over the top so they do not spatter and heat up until hot. Everyone who eats them thinks they are great.
Canned baked beans used to have gluten in years ago and without knowing why I hated all of those things and after thirty years I still do not want them
She makes them, why don't you wash the dishes?
  • Just heating up the beans? Sure why not as long as the plastic bag is microwaveable.
  • If it is just for you and the wife, we microwave 2 small individual bowls for our own serving in a paper bowl.
  • Nuke it at 60% power and leave bag open slightly or you will have an entire mw mess to clean instead of a pot. It would be better if you nuke it in a Corelle or other china bowl and forget the plastic. Just cover the bowl with a mw lid or a china plate. Still nuke at 60% to keep exploded beans under control; the sugar in the baked bean sauce gets uber lava hot.
  • Just read Stag's chili says they can be microwaved in plastic baggie just leave it partially open for steam to vent. So BBQ beans should be the same.
  • Make sure its not a ziplock sandwich bag or that will rupture from the steam and make a bigger mess. Good luck.
  • They may heat up, but they won't taste the same.... ;)

More than likely, they'll just explode in the bag and cause more of a mess then just soaking a pot overnight.. :)

    Good luck!

  • It won't cost much to find out, but I'd bet that most of the beans will explode.
