Turkey Frying

I have fried turkeys for years and finally got burned out on it; oil is expensive, messy to deal with, no drippings for gravy.

So I walked into Home Depot a few years ago the day after Xmas and they had their infrared fryers marked down 50%.

Never looked back. They cook well, simple, and have a pot that catches all the drippings.

I highly recommend it.

ALso good for hams and roasts.

We go camping every year for Thanksgiving,and have done the Oil deep fry method and it was good but a pain and expensive.

A few years back I went to The Big Easy and it was so much easier and everyone loved the Turkey,I think it comes out better and you get the drippings.


Crisp skin and moist meat.

Any of you use marinade? without injecting.

I dont on purpose. Any sugar would burn. I have injected a few times.

Have lately just put salt and pepper on it.

I have used both oil and oilless. With oil I inject. When using the oilless I use a dry rub before cooking. I prefer the oilless fryer to the oil. For the last yr or so, I haved used the oilless. The Big Easy to be exact. When I do have deep fried it is at a friends camper.

And another person prefers the infrared to using oil.

Olive oil for all.

On a tight budget, but it suits my ageing bod just fine.

Just watched a video of the Charbroil Big Easy Infrared fryer. Guy cooked a 16 lb turkey in a little over 90 minutes. Gears turning.....

We purchased a Big Easy five or so years ago. We use to always deep fry our turkey prior to it. We LOVE it. We cook all kinds of meats in ours beside just turkey.
