Thanksgiving Day...Turkey?

Does Thanksgiving morning count?

I'm going to make a breakfast bake the night before and put it in the fridge and pop it in the oven for breakfast:

2 cups of ham
1 medium red bell pepper - chopped
1 medium green bell pepper - chopped
1 medium onion - chopped
1 big bag of hashed browns
1 big bag of shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup of Bisquick
1 cup of milk (give or take)
6 - 8 eggs (give or take)
2 tablespoons ground parsley

Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Grease rectangular baking dish
If you are using the pork, brown it with onions in a skillet - drain
Mix milk, bisquick and eggs together
Add meat, onions and hashed browns and parsley
Add cheese
Save enough cheese for topping

Mix well in a big bowl and spread in pan, cover with cheese

Bake uncovered in oven for 40 minutes.
Add cheese and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted.

Serves 12

Got the campground reservation. Gonna brine/smoke a bird.

Picked up a lil' butterball today (8#)... gotta git em'

early or left with 16 lb'ers.

We've liked the Butterball's for many years.

My dad use to make a muskovy duck, from a local farmer in Green Bay, and roast that in addition to a turkey...fabulous.

We use the char-broil oilless fryer. Its propane and works great a little longer than hot oil. BUT a whole lot safer.. with my SIL being a firefighter it makes him happy too. Inject with seasoning fluids and get the operating temps right and drop it down into the fryer with its basket and just wait on it. Check temps according to set parameters and we have a fried(more like broasted) bird.
we usually have:
the bird, ham, stew/roast beef, sweet potatoes, corn, cranberries, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, slaw, salad, tons of desserts, bread, pintoes, mac&cheese, you name it we have it.. BUT we camp Thaksgiving week with up to 9 other famlies..

Soak for several hours in a brine made with Kosher salt in water and apple juice. Pat dry, coat with Olive oil and some Poultry seasoning. Smoke on a water smoker for about 6 hours over Mesquite.

Traditional for our club campout in November. I do at least 2 a year. One for the club, one for family dinner at home - different weekends.

This is EXACTLY the way my cousins make their Big Bird! I had to make sure it wasn't them posting LOL!

Brining is a must and this recipe has been my "go to" for the last few years.

About 30 years ago during a Thanksgiving dinner at Mom's house, someone made mention that there was always so much turkey left over. Conversation worked its way around to the fact that none of us (5 brothers and sisters) liked turkey very much. It was decided that from then on, our Thanksgiving meal would be a fish fry, which we all love and so it has is to this day. We have added shrimp and oysters along with the catfish and bream if anyone has caught a mess or two.

robsouth, you could have at least a picked a menu item that made as good or better leftovers than the first day. That's the beauty of turkey. Second day turkey sandwiches are better than Thanksgiving Day turkey simply because you aren't ready to explode from all the other food.
