I'd have to say raspberry pie is my absolute favorite from a child when my grandma would make them.
I think that razzleberry pie is a pretty good choice for a commercial pie. There is a homemade pie shop at the very tip of Door county Wi. That sells an awesome raspberry pie.

I broke down and got one of those mixed berry pies. It's not the same as straight red though :) They used to make Sara Lee straight red just North of me at the Chef Pierre factory, former home of the world's largest Cherry Pie.

Thanks for the link, and the bad news. I guess that explains the $$$ price for "fresh picked" berries as well back in late summer.

Saw a rasberry pie in Walmart here in TX. They also had red rasberries at the local HEB grocery store for a good price. I guess the problem hasn't gotten down here yet. You might check with some Amish if you have any around you. They usually sell baked goods and may have some, or can make you some when in season.

There has been a problem with Red Raspberries for the past several years and it is spreading. The worm problem is spread by the Spotted Winged Drosophila. The worms infest the fruit even before it ripens, so when picked they show up in the containers (and I suppose in the pies, although they are dead if baked in a pie).

we live in northeast ohio on a small farm. and I have black rasberry pie any time I ask. home grown, daughter picks cleans and freeze,s them .had some for Xmas .

I've been hearing about poor crops of raspberries and blackberries for 4 years now. Might have something to do with the fact that the earth's tilt was changed on its axis from the huge Japanese earthquake in spring 2011.

Or it could be a cyclical dormancy for that species.
