5G cell phones, need to purchase?

Apple doesn’t yet offer a 5G (supposed to be out in the Fall) and I’m an Apple guy. I want to see how fast 5G really is. Almost time for a new iPad mini too.

4G will not become obsolete in any short period of time. 3G is still used some places right now. 5G range is so short, a mile or two in perfect conditions that it will be kept inside large cities. In a basketball arena they had to install 5G antennas along each long wall because the signal would not reach the other side of the place.

I saw that a major magazine tested 5G vs 4G and found 4G superior in actual real life conditions. Right now 5G is future tech and I'm not the least worried about it. Phone companies will add it to future phones and you'll get it eventually.

Agree with above. 4G range is measured in miles. 5G range is measured in feet. The costs of installing 5G cell towers to get good coverage is going to limit it to cities for the time being. Go out of town and it will be 4G, probably for a long while.

What is this 4G of which you speak? At my home, sometimes is is still 1X and 3G on a good day. I would be really happy if I had consistent 4G. Not sure when 5G will ever make it to the rural areas

Yeah, don't waste money on 5G cell phones. Invest instead in the the companies installing cell towers. They're busier than one-armed paper hangers trying to build out for 5G. It's a shame that the old company Metrocell here in N. Texas didn't survive until now. They were placing repeaters on most light poles and a lot of that equipment is still there. At the time they were in business one could drive almost anywhere in the Metroplex with a strong signal that never dropped.

Someday we will all be using 5G (or Elon's satellites) but today is not that day.

3G is going the way of the dodo. The 3G bandwidth is being pulled for 5G won't bother you unless your running dinosaur phones.
