I think I'm finished with the Rand McNally RVND 7730. I'm looking for a GPS that will allow me to plan my trip with a 3rd party software and import it into the GPS. Rand McNally will only accept imports from their (crappy) software. We travel in places that don't always have cell service so no apps please. Suggestions?

Thanx,

Jim

A tip for downloading offline maps, smaller areas work better. Trying to download a large area that's 100s of MB tends to confuse or plug up maps. Downloading the same as several 20 MB maps is more reliable.

You will need to connect to the Internet every so often to redownload as the offline maps automatically expire. Maps does alert you when it's time.

I won't mention it, but just in case someone does, Google Maps does not require ANY cellular connection to work as a GPS.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

It also has an offline mode so it works without cell service if done properly.

I know of no GPS unit that allows you to import from other than their own proprietary trip planning software

The Good Sam software (and their discontinued GPS) are made by Rand McNally. The software doesn't have some of the features I want and the GPS units will only allow imports from Good Sam or Rand McNally TripMaker.

I have an RVND 7735 and use the Good Sam road trip planner to create the route which can then be exported to my device.
