Amazon Prime offers SOME offline viewing on some devices

are you an Amazon Prime Member??? Do you have limited wifi?
Amazon Prime members can now download Prime Instant Video titles to Android and iOS devices for offline viewing. So you can download content to your device when you have a non-mobile connection and watch it later without burning up bytes on your data plan.
There is some fine print: Not all titles are available. "The time period you have to view a downloaded video while your device is offline varies by title." And you can have only a certain number of downloaded titles at any time.
It will be great to see some of the details on these restrictions.

Amazon Prime - offers offline viewing
  • We have Prime. We use it with our Roku. We find movies and tv shows that fit our tastes. Plus we are not big tv watchers anyway.

We are planning to drop the cable ($150+ per month) and go to internet tv. Even at the cost of $3-$6 per movie that will still be cheaper than cable and/or satellite. We will get a bigger variety of our preferences to choose from. Plus NO COMMERCIALS!!!

As for the personal info the app wants...that seems similar to most phone apps. Using the Roku on the tv bypasses all that. You would probably still need the app if you want to watch tv on your phone but we could never figure out why anyone would watch tv on such a small devise! The 50" tv is really the only way to go in our opinion.
  • I have Prime but am seriously considering dropping it since there isn't all that much content that is included with the Prime subscription. Most of the movies that I want to watch, Amazon wants me to pay $2.99 to watch. The free content is a joke for the most part.

I probably would not subscribe to Prime just for the video service, we mainly benefit from free shipping. The videos, music, etc. are just nice additions to the package.

X2... I use it from the pc and tablet
The first year I watched a lot of stuff , I had missed from cable..etc..
But I don't watch too much any more
But it is a nice extra too have

  • I tried Prime for the free month. That video service is a joke. Even though there are 1,000's of titles, there was very little of interest to us. All the stuff like old HGTV and DIY episodes were still pay to view.

After spending an hour to find something I wanted to watch, I was tired of watching TV. :)

Just seemed like another catch to get you to spend.
  • Here is a link to the app on Amazon. Apparently you have to download the Amazon app store app ;) and then download the video app.

Look at the reviews - folks sure seem to be upset about all the personal information and control they feel they are giving up.

Would love to hear what folks here think about it...
  • Yeah I saw the news last night
Went online to my prime account, could not find any info about the free downloading
I was on my pc, I will have to try again from my Xoom android tablet
  • Good to know. I was wondering if this was possible? Now to figure out how. This could take a while. Thanks
