Apple has been this way since forever. They want (and have) full control of everything from the original software, to the updates, to the hardware. Nobody is allowed to produce Mac computer parts, everything is proprietary. Repair facilities must be authorized. No parts will be sold to the public. This goes for computers, music players, phones, tablets, everything.
