The flaming battery problem, and the aging/slowing issue, are two separate and unrelated problems. Samsung doesn't intentionally slow their phones because their worried about the phone "crashing". I would cut Apple more slack on this, but their even doing it to the Iphone 6, which is only 3 years old. That period to period Iphone activation's are down(only 1%),compared to last year, does not help buttress their argument. I have both Apple and Android phones in the family. I like them both. Same with computers.

Wife and I both have apple iPhone 6 neither of us have noticed any difference in performance or battery life. For us, in the real world, the whole battery/ performance slow down is just blah blah blah, can't get excited about it in the least.
We have Apple MacBook pros, for us the build quality, the support, the reliability are all reasons for us to continue using Apple.
We use to have android phones, and toshiba/dell laptops, I resisted going to Apple for years, I thought they were too invasive, too expensive, too trendy. We started with an iPad and really liked it, and have bought Apple ever since. I think about going back to the Dell laptops but every time i pick up my MacBook Pro Im glad I bought it.

I've been an avid Apple user for year. I have a 6 year old MacBook Pro. There are some false things being said as absolutes.

My Mac has aftermarket Ram. I upgraded to 8 GB before I walked out of the store when I bought it. This past year I upgraded the HD to a 1TB drive... Aftermarket drive at that.

I can order nearly any part I need for this computer off of the internet.

I upgraded my OS X to High Sierra a few days ago. I can say that my computer actually runs better with High Sierra.

I have an iPhone 6S Plus and will admit when I upgraded to iOS 11 on the day of release it did cause my battery life to degrade rapidly. I am now running iOS 11.2 and the phone is running great now.

For me, the features that iOS 11 bring is worth having to grab a charger a little quicker. It's a fantastic OS.

I do have an iPad Air 2 as well. I am thinking about selling it. It runs iOS 11 but it did have a few bugs with the split screen multi-tasking. That has been ironed out with the 11.2 update though. I mostly use it for my sermons and use it while preaching. Any tablet could do this.

I am moving away from Apple in some ways. I bought a 17 inch Acer Laptop which my wife promptly claimed. I plan on building a nice desktop computer soon and it will be a Windows 10 machine.

I also bought a used LG G5 Android Phone on a whim recently and I really like it. Once I booted it up and activated it I was able to do a software update.

Sounds like something is not shutting down properly. I actually prefer an Android phone but I am currently using an iPhone 7 because of the superior battery life.
