Wife spilled a cup of coffee on the Mac keyboard. I did all the right things to dry it out but it wasn't salvageable.
Took it to the Mac store to buy a new one. I told them that it was ruined by the coffee incident. They asked how old it was, I told them "just under 3 years old". They reached on to the shelf, got a new one and handed it to me and said, "there ya go". No charge...they didn't even make me prove the age or look it up.
I like that kind of service.
You gotta give more details on this story...did you have a 3 yr. accidental breakage plan, or is one built-in on all Apple stuff?
When I purchased my Mac it was a close out sale (model). It included the free 3 year technical support in the price.
But: I didn't mention anything about the support deal when I walked into the Apple store. I fully expected to pay for a new keyboard because of the coffee spill and I didn't make up any story about it, I told them about the coffee spill. They never asked for a receipt, or any proof about my purchase which was in a different state.
BTW: I'm sure the cost of the new keyboard was way in excess of $5. A wireless mouse is $60.00.
