If you still want to do things the "right" way...

For $13,000, a network analyzer:

For $900, a time domian reflectometer:

If you can't afford that, I'm sure the campground host has a TDR laying around that you can borrow. I'm certain most state park rangers carry network analyzers in their trucks. Yep.

Or, for $0.57 (yes, that's 57 cents) you can try a simple resistance measurement with a multimeter.
