- Kayteg1Explorer IILately cheaper source for the cable show on ebay. Takes some time to get the cable from China, but the price is right and here is current listing
In case listing expires - search for "Car Antenna Extension Cable,Fakra F Brown Female to Female Pigtail Cable 3m" - time2retireExplorerSo Kayteg is king of the "jury rig"? WTH?
- LosAngelesExplorerCool info!
Thanks.
j. - Kayteg1Explorer IIIt is winter season, so time to finish summer projects ;)
After couple of glitches with home-made cable extension, I decided to buy Ford harness for more than I spend on family dinner and I pulled camera cable from it. Now I have all solid and waterproof cable.
Here is part number if someone wants to do the sameClick For Full-Size Image.
Than even I did not want to put tailgate back, carrying garden supplies and using small trailer occasionally, I wanted to add stop at the end of the bed and put the camera as well for better parking.
Here is the solution for both issues. The camera is lower than normally on tailgate, so bumper obstruct some view, but I can see trailer ball and that what counts.Click For Full-Size Image.

Finally I worked on cosmetics as well and painted the "sculpture" I made out of hardwood. It was try-by-error cut, so took some time and it works. The metal bracket that can be attached by screw to the trim, or by hose clamp to camper ladder come from under-mount kitchen sink.
Spring clip is part for window blinds.Click For Full-Size Image.

- Kayteg1Explorer IIThe $500 is trailer camera, when $700 include trailer tpm.
In my case the tailgate most likely will never go back on the truck, so camera in it would be wasted would I not reuse it on the camper.
Also trailer camera will not be part of 360 view and switching view when you are trying to make fast maneuver (somebody is ALWAYS behind you) gets annoying.
Side question - did anybody found the way to override factory setting that turns both rear cameras only when shifted to reverse? - stufarmerExplorerI believe the $500./$700. Camera from Ford that you're speaking of includes the Camera and Trailer TPMS monitoring. I found the Ford optional stand alone back-up Camera for under $300. on E Bay.
- Kayteg1Explorer IIAfter using the system on our 7000 miles trip, I want upgrade that will not force me crawling under the camper each time I connect/disconnect it.
I figure out main camper cable can be disconnected on the side of the bed, where I have extension and for the camera I placed order on original Ford harness that will give me water-tight plugs and hopefully enough length to bring it to the side for easy access.
Took me 4 talks with parts dept and when Ford dealer could not help me, personal visit to Lincoln dealer and working with the guy on computer screen found me the cables I need.
Will post all the update once I have it done. - hedgeExplorerThanks for posting this, I was wondering if anyone found a way to integrate it into the 360 camera. I just bought a 2017 truck so I want to do the same thing.

I'm glad it works for you, but it seems like a lot of effort and destruction to get a camera when there are ones made for the purpose.
No not really. Nothing got damaged or alerted that can't be put back the way it was. I only decided to drill small hole in camper bumper for the wire.
First I just retired, so my time has little value.
Than even I would spend $500 for Ford trailer camera, I would loose 360' vision the tailgate camera gives me.
Since I might not take the camper off for years to come, the camera would be wasted with tailgate, so I guess I can claim to be environmental-friendly ;) - jimh406Explorer IIII'm glad it works for you, but it seems like a lot of effort and destruction to get a camera when there are ones made for the purpose.
