Bitdefender Free Antivirus

I'm in the process of testing out this program on my computer (Toshiba laptop, Windows10/64 Anniv.). Just newly installed, it already blocked two potentially malicious events. So far, looks like a keeper.

Anyone else using this program? Comments?
  • Time Warner (Spectrum) provides a free McAfee virus. Any good?

It does not provide me any info. on potential, found or existing threats. It just says "You are secure"

Are you using the free one, or the paid version?

    Free but also use malwarebytes.

I use Malwarebytes free. Of course, it's only for occasional scanning. Only the Premium version works in real time. I was considering installing the paid version, but had problems with installing it and finally gave up. Besides, I read online that the newest version (3.0) is somewhat buggy.
  • I also have been using Bit Defender free for quite a few years. Have used it on several different computers with good results on all of them. Presently using it on two machines. One a desktop, win10, 64bit and the other a laptop with same configuration.

  • I have been using BitDefender Internet Security 2017 for a few months (bought it in 2016). It has been getting good reviews in the PC mags for several years. So far it has worked fine. The only issue I have had with it is that you can't do a simple pause. Pausing it requires an involved process of turning each service off and is a real PITA.
I gave up on Norton years ago when it started slowing everything down a lot.
Dropped TrendMicro when they started insisting I uninstall the last version before I could install the new version and it took forever to do it. I also had trouble getting my wife's computer to be accepted (I had either a two or three computer licence)
Used Kepersky for a few years and was happy with it but dropped them because my wife swore it slowed her computer down so much when it was scanning that she couldn't use it. I did not have that issue but it was easier to get a new program rather than listen to her complain.:)

  • I used it for years and just upgraded to Bitdefender AV Plus mainly because it has ransom ware protection.

Same virus protection as the free but more options you can't go wrong I also have Malwarebytes installed and the two programs get along just fine. Windows 10 64 bit.

Added this post... BD Plus has a secure browser feature for using on a public WIFI you might be interested in.
