Can I use Direct TV at home and on the road at same time?

No, none of the DirecTV receivers require an HD antenna. You only need an open face antenna if you want to receive the HD programming but all of the HD receivers do fine working with SD only. You might be thinking of DirecTV SWM receivers but they don't require an HD antenna either.
