Charging for shop rags?

I'm having a washer/dryer installed in about 4 weeks at Camping World. Is it common practice to be charged for shop rags (to protect the against damage), on top of the install charge?

If they didn't have the special then that would be one thing but to advertise any install for a certain price and then pile on charges or fees for stuff like shop rags is a rip off in my book.

Many service departments have a so called "shop supply" fee, that's added to the bill automatically. Never seen a specific item they were charging for though, unless it was part of the repair itself. It's supposed to cover things like rags, or perhaps some WD40 that was used to lubricate hinges or latch's, type of thing.

Personally, I felt it was a trumped up charge, as this type of thing should have been included in the price for each specific service. They should know what supplies would be needed for any given job.
For example, you go in to have your brake pads replaced, for the price listed on their service menu. Then it's like... "Oh yeah, we needed to add some extra for things like the brake cleaner, and anti-seize we used".. as if they wouldn't know this already..grrrr

Tell them you want to keep the shop towell's, since you paid for them..lol

It was a great sale, any install for $29.99. So I feel they are just adding on the shop rag use to make back a couple of dollars. The salesman did say it was for protection against damage. I would think the install price should cover a safe and undamaged install.

You are seeing the impact of detailed billing, the so called justification behind the costs of doing busines. The question is whether or not the items are actually being used.

Are they actually explaining that shop rags are being used to protect the appliance(s) and RV? I would expect that something better would be used.

A question is what is the shop rate being charged for the labor, $/hr. If the shop rate is still high, then they are piling on to the bill.

Well, they charge for sponges when you have surgery. Actually, my wife had surgery a few years ago. About the time the surgery was suppose to be over, the doctor came out of the waiting room and talked to me. Turns out they forgot to remove one of the sponges for her insides and wanted my permission to go back in and remove it! DUH! Imagine our surprise when the insurance was charged for 2 surgeries and all those sponges!

Nothing surprises me any more. Shop towels? Why not?
