Shopping for generator

Hi Cari,

I'd disagree with the advice you have been given.

My choice would be the 3500 watt Champion inverter generator with remote electric start. Put it on a rack at the back of the 5th wheel.

Buckle up.

two honnda generators EU2000 would work for you.Only use one if not useing A/C

I would not put even a bicycle on the rear of your RV unless it has been beefed up to the frame

Here is mine - I used 2 of the Honda EU2000's and they were great for me. I now have a built in Onan and love it even more !

I agree that you're going to get a lot of opinions. If you =need= to be moving the gennys often, then having 2 2k with a parallel connection is probably the easiest solution. The Hondas weigh in just under 50 lbs each; I don't know what other brands weigh, so can't speak to that. Downside is that they'll only run for about 2-6 hours, depending on the load, so if you're thinking you're going to need longer run time, like running an A/C all night long, then you'll need an extended run tank. Also, I've not yet seen a 2k genny with electric start, so you're pulling ropes to start them. Personally, I'd use a 3k genny for a single A/C rig, mounted on a cargo rack on the back, though you would almost certainly need to beef up the rear bumper to handle the weight. This type of setup would allow you to get electric start =and= remote start.

Hard to beat the Champion for the price. I'd get the 3100, or 3400 with remote start, and put it in the truck bed. Even a 2K Honda will be heavy. You will not want to carry it either.

Westinghouse Inverters seem to be the lightest in the 2,000 range. Home Depot $479 the last time I looked. 43 pounds

It used to be that Honda was #1 and Yamaha was #2 and after that there was nothing worthwhile.

#1 and #2 still have not changed and the Champion Generators have been out long enough to prove themselves a worthy #3. The new dark horse are the Harbor Freight inverter generators. Early reports are good, but those are "early" !

At this point in time, I would go with Champion.

The Honda EU2000i is about 45 lbs. The Champion 2000 is about the same.

The Champion 3100/3400 are 85-95 lbs.

What ever you choose, make sure it is LOCKED DOWN ! You don't want it to walk away !
