In the process of moving from one S&B to another we have changed from Dish to DirecTV. We have been using the original crank-up Winegard and a Dish receiver since 2004.Now I need to change over to DirecTV in the coach. What is required and how much time, effort and cost is involved? Has anyboy made the swap?I don't need In-motion, auto search or any of the other fancy stuff. Not sure if the current LNB will work but I do need a different receiver.No HD needed. All equipment is analog including tv's and control switch.

Sounds like all you will need is a receiver and a new LNB. Call one of the internet satellite equipment resellers and they should be able to set you up in one stop.

You do not need a new LNB -the one you have works for SD on both direct & dishJust get new receiver and now you will aim at 101 instead of 119 sat-19º to the east of where you use to aim & a little different elevationDonPs I have a buddy who has a winter home in Congress AZ

Don, that is what I was hoping to hear. I used to take one of the receivers from the house, plug it and go. Will one of the small (remote?) units that Direct has do the same or are they a slave unit to the Genie and won't work the same way?

Dont think they will work as I have no experience with the genie set up ??If it were me I would go with the HR24 so that in the future you could go HD and have a PVR - or the D11 sd receiver( could be a D12-not sure of model)just for the rvDon

When I was on DISH I used a 311. Now that I am on DTV I am using a D12. The D12 is much smaller and doesn't seem to generate as much heat as the 311.

You can see your other thread but any Dish receiver, other than a Hopper, will work in your RV.

UPDATE:

Bought the D12 and it didn't take long to find the DTV sat and get a good signal. I actually believe it might even be a better signal than what I got from DISH and I don't lose have my movie channels because they are on two different birds.

Lots of good info from our forum members as usual. Looks like I am going to be contacting DTv and getting a new D12. I will hook it up and see what I can find.

DIsh uses 3 satellites in the same band (KU I think) so if your antenna needed to be re-pointed when you change stations (sometimes that is) it is a solo LNB and very likely compatable with DIRECTV which uses one satellite in the same band, You just need to point a bit more toward the center of the nation.

ON the other hand it will not be compatable with DirecHDTV (HD) since that uses a different frequency band and thus a different antenna.

No, the C31 client used with your Genie is not a satellite receiver. There is also a DirecTV HD receiver which you can't use. Since the antenna you have will not get any DirecTV HD programming you can either buy a D12 receiver that you use only in the RV or you can buy an H24 or HR24 (DRV) and use that at home as well as the RV. You could actually put the HR24 into the loop with your Genie and record even more stuff! which would be viewable on any of the connected TV's.
