Direct TV
Took my direct tv dish on the road and of course I can't my local channels. I don't want to buy more equipment. Is there a way to get around this or get the major channels somehow else. Thanks, Dave

I must have got lucky. We had SWM DirecTv installed in our 5er in Arizona a couple years ago. When we travel back to Michigan, I call direct and have our service address changed, We get the locals. I've also changed the service address in other states when the wife needed to watch her reality tv shows. Plan included free local channels.
We have locals and DNS and can change the locals in a similar manner. However, regardless of what city's channels the locals are set to, the DVR is programmed to use the DNS channels. That way nothing changes when we move to a new city and most of the time I don't bother to switch the locals unless we are staying in one area for a couple of months. It's not as if there is anything particularly interesting in watching local news in an unfamiliar city and you can get better weather forecasts online IMO.
When you say, "the DVR is programmed to use the DNS channels", is that a function of the box or do you just make sure to schedule DNS slots?
