Just got set up in Florence Or. and realized I had passed out of my last local channel area so I called to update my service address.After about an hour of trying this and that the tech informed me that local channels will not be available. Now this would normally be a minor frustration, but I'm from AZ and the Cardinals are playing in the NFC Championship this Sunday. :E AHHHHH!Never have had a problem changing the service address before. Anyone else faced this issue. If so, did you resolve it successfully?Plan to call in the AM and try again. Not totally convinced he knew what he was talking about. Any help appreciated.

One phone call to Dish and all my local channels in calif. were switched to Ariz.

Should be no problem if you are in Florence, Oregon. They have a powerful set of local TV Translators that cover the entire area. FOX Network is carrying the Cardinals' game on Sunday on the local FOX translator channel 34 (HD). I don't know of any RV Parks in the area that cannot get the local channels. Set your TV to scan for new digital channels with your over the air antenna ... no need for the satellite dish.

The FCC regulates it. They were never supposed to change your service address but some of the reps did it anyhow. You may or may not get someone next time who will do it. You can try asking for a supervisor and threatening to cancel service if they don't. They may make an exception if you say you've done it before. AT&T purchased DirecTV and may be tightening up the rules. We purchased DNS stations (east and west coast feeds) so we always have affiliate channels. It's great if you don't have a home with Directv but if you have service at a home address you can't "mirror" that service and have to purchase a separate complete package plus pay for the DNS service which gets expensive. Again this "no mirror" rule is from the FCC not DirecTV.

Thousands of RVers change their 'service address' all the time. This should not be a problem with either DirecTV or Dish, although reportedly Dish customer service does seem to deal with RVers better than DirecTV. Your problem is you got an ignorant customer service rep. The general solution is to simply hang up and call again to get a new one. I rarely have to do this when changing my service address....but actually I have had better luck using Chat on the internet to accomplish this.Regardless of your outcome - while in Florence you should be able to get the local FOX network broadcast as I previously posted above.

The way he explained it is that Directv leases space on a Dish satellite because it is higher in the sky. Better reception this far north. Maybe different if I had newer equipment.

I would suggest you look at the Winegard Pathway x2 portable automatic sat antenna. It is capable of receiving both DISH Eastern Arc and Western Arc sats, so it will work all across the country and is capable of supplying 2 receivers.

after reading through the posts on satellite tv I am confused. as to which system is thought to handle 2 TV's and how to hook it up plus how many receivers would be needed. and which ones could be used across the u.s.a. with the best results.
right now we are using a winegard over the air antenna with booster and want to upgrade to satellite pay as you go.

Yes, the sats are geosynchronous. But remember if you're at say 80 degrees longitude, a sat at 60 degrees will APPEAR lower than one at (closer to) 80.

Also, not all sat providers have all transponders pointing in the same direction. Maybe the tech said the beam on some leased transponders are aimed further north than others.

I remember people saying that direct was easier to aim sometimes since it was pointing up higher. doesn't this sort of also depend as to where on earth you are pointing at which sat? I mean can't one be lower toward the horizon if located further away?

OK. Beautiful area. We have never stayed at that Thousand Trails .... mostly because we live here. Hope you are enjoying the area. The TV Translators are less than one mile from you, on Glenada Pk eastnortheast from you at an elevation of about 700 feet. They run 10,000 watts. I suggest you study up on your TV over the air system as there is no reason outside of that that could have prevented you from picking up those stations. Then again, as I saw, it would have been painful for you to watch anyway.
