Directv in Travel Trailer

That ended up being it, called to get access card, "leased" receiver and of course has to go back to directv. Ordered one from directv and ended up being $178~ shipped, has to pay an extra $50 because our account has only been open 3 months (complete gouge and extremely outrageous) anyway that was the second thing to make me pissed today!

It could be a problem with the receiver not being as "clean" as the seller claimed. Call DirecTV and give them the card number, serial number and receiver ID. If it's bad they will let you know right away. If it's good they will get you going assuming you already have the antenna pointed, locked on correctly and able to watch TV on channel 101.

unless i did it wrong, i went to the website, logged in, went to my equipment page and then to add receiver and inserted the receiver ID but got the message

"Your account does not show any receivers eligible for activation. If this is in error, please call 1-800-531-5000 for assistance."

Sounds like I will just call but wanted to make sure I wasnt doing something wrong. Will i need a smart card for that receiver or no?

Your account won't show any receiver eligible for activation until you go through the "add a receiver" process online and enter the proper ID numbers for the new receiver. It's not as if DirecTV can sense the presence of a receiver in your home.

That will work as well but so does the A/B switch I mention. Just a matter of what you would like.

well the minimax did not work because i am almost positive i did not know about/how to rewire it.

If that's how the coach is wired then you are correct. All you would need to do is disconnect the "cable" coax from the back side of the wall plate. If you think you might ever want cable you can connect that cable to an A/B switch (not a splitter) and run one coax back to the port you just disconnected from and the other port to the satellite receiver. Doing so would allow you to select either input with the push of a button.
HOWEVER, some coaches are not wired exactly that way. If there is a splitter in the system anywhere between the outside connection and the Winegard power supply (wall plate with power button) then you will not be able to use this connection at all.
If you do have a direct line it should work just fine whether you use a standard antenna, dome or SWM. You just need the dedicated run to the receiver.

Doesn't hurt to try it but since the Minimax didn't work on that coax don't expect SWM to work either.
