Dish 311 Receiver With Tailgater???

I bought a tailgater and called my local Dish Installer to ask about upgrading from my current 311 to 211 to use with my tailgater. I told him I was not interested in HD because I will be using coax to the TV's and not HDMI. He ask me if I had tried the 311 because he has a few people using them with the tailgater. I told him I was under the impression it would not work. Has anyone on here tried it? And what would the draw backs be?

  • I will try my 311 just to see if it works, but I have decided to go with a 211 so i can add the harddrive for DVR.
  • The VIP211K is a fantastic, easy to use receiver. Good prices now on Amazon and eBay too.

Look again and let us know. Dish claims the 311 will not work.

That is my understanding also...the 211's are the one's that work with the Tailgater.
  • Special software was written by Dish and is downloaded to the receiver when connected to the Tailgater. You can't hurt anything by connecting the 311 but I would be very surprised if it actually did work.
211, 211K, 211Z and 411 are the only ones I am aware of that do work. If you try the 311, be sure to let us know the results.
  • The 211k, 211 and 411 are the only ones listed to work with the Tailgater, they have to have the internal programing and power supply to run the Tailgater.

  • I have a Tailgater with a 211 receiver. Why not hook up your 311 and see if it works? Actually, it should. The tailgater is just an antenna dish and you won't get HD.
We really like our set up. Good luck with yours.
