Dish Tailgater

I suggest you list your receiver.

You may need something like a VIP 211K in HD. That is what we use for our King Dome, and it will locate all three sats and gets all programming automatically, similiar to what the tailgater will do, but only for one tv, or 2 tv's with the same program. It has no DVR. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert

DuoDVR® ViP 722k

The Winegard Carryout will work with your 722, but you won't be able to record a show on one satellite while watching another show on a different satellite. The Tailgater has the same limitation when used with the 211K with an optional external hard drive for the DVR function. A multiple LNB dish is needed to receive more than one satellite at a time. The Dish 1000.2 or 1000.4 manually aimed dishes will work for that, as will the roof mounted Winegard Traveller.

Buy the VIP 211K receiver to use with your tailgater (they are not expensive). You can add a USB external hard drive ($40 one time charge) and you have a DVR.

That is what we have with our Tailgater.

If you are hung up on keeping your receiver and not trading it as others suggest, a VuCube 2000 will work with your 722k.

Pros - the 2000 will work with any satellite provider and can be set for either the eastern or western arc of DISH.

Con - The 2000 is twice the price of the tailgater. Swapping receivers is definitely less expensive......

This is what we do. But... keep in mind... the DVR will only record/watch one show at a time. No watching one and recording another. The realistic use of this setup is to watch live when you like and record shows when you are not currently watching. When watching live, the "Back" and (after you have backed up sufficiently) "Forward" still work to skip approximately 20 minutes per hour of commercials.

Thanks for everyone's responses. Armed with this information and conversations with Dish and Wineguard I've discovered the only portable satellite dish available is from Wineguard. As soon as I can scape up the extra money I'll buy one! I did not want to "downgrade" or have to purchase a second receiver to accomplish what initially seemed to be an easy decision process.
