Morning all,I need help with my dish configuration. At home I have Dish Network. Instead of paying Dish extra for everything for my TT I have been just grabbing my Hopper and taking that with us. It works great for watching stuff we have recorded on it. For longer trips we decided we want the ability to watch live TV so I bought this on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U47LA6W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Our first trip trying to use it was weird. I hooked everything up and eventually got a signal however we were unable to get any local channels and I don't think I was getting HD. We were about 2 hours west of where we live. I don't want to call Dish because I'm pretty sure they'll tell me I need to pay more for the privilege of using my service wherever I want. I assume the problem is with the responders the Hopper receiver is looking for but I'm not sure. Has anyone ran into this and have a resolution? Is there an easy button?

Depending on where you live 2 hours away may mean you are out of your locals area. Just call them and give them your current zip code. No issue with taking your equipment where you want.

Local networks are sent from the satellite on spot beams ... that only cover a small geographic area. When you make a significant move from your home coverage area you need to notify Dish customer service to change your SERVICE area to the new area you are in and that you want locals for that area. DO NOT allow them to change your billing address! I find using Dish Chat works a lot better than telephone calls to their customer service. You will need to do this every time you move from one spot beam coverage area to another.

On edit: I see Ed beat me to it, so I'll leave my post as is and just add an "X2" for Ed's post. ;)We change our Dish service address as often as daily with no problems when traveling. There is no extra charge for taking your at home receiver with you in your RV, and many part-time RV'ers do exactly that. We've found that the Dish online chat system works best for us when making the changes, and we use a pre-written script with the new address that we just copy and paste into the chat window. Make sure they ONLY change your service address, and NOT your billing address. You can check that using your MYDish account and correct it if necessary.

That's a nice price for that setup.I can be 300 miles away from home (Galveston to Leakey) and still receive my local stations. The HopperGO uses the Dish Anywhere app and you'll need a very large, preferably unlimited, cell data plan for watching Hopper3 or Hopper w/Sling content remotely. Not for the stored content of course.

You would need to check which Dish Networks are still broadcast CONUS. For DirecTV that is NY and LA. I believe that Dish still is still NY and San Fran but I have not checked recently.

We are planning a multi state trip with our dish account and to not have to continually change addresses to get the network channels, could use use a New York address and get the networks across the USA.

I'm not sure what the Dish Network range is on local channels but back when we had DTV it was published at 250 miles.

This was not true in the past and is still not true today. As mentioned above the spot beams vary in size and shape depending upon location and the size of a particular market. It also depends upon your location. If you happen to be at the top of a spot beam, driving N could cause signal loss in 50 miles but driving S you might be able to go 300-500 miles without loss. Moving E and W will get you out of a spot beam faster (in most cases) than moving N and S due to the oval pattern of most beams. This is true of both providers.

DISH spotbeams not only vary is size but also shape -- which can be a factor when traveling, for example:

- ALBANY, GA (Spotbeam 51)

- CHICO, CA (Spotbeam 16)

Your issue may be the that you need a multiple LNB dish in order to get your local channels. I'm not sure what the issue might be with the HD, could be the dish. When we had DTV I simply bought a triple LNB dish off of Craigslist for $20. Mounted it to a wood platform that I could level and took an extra receiver from the house. I could set up and aim the dish in 10 minutes with no signal meter. I just used the signal indicator on the receiver that's displayed on the television.
