Dish Network... on hold

Someone told me that Dish charges $5 per month to have your account on hold/standby, for a maximum of 9 months, or it will start up again automatically. Is this correct? Just curious...
  • If you put it on hold they will charge you $5 a mounth, if you own your equipment you can suspend it and be charged nothing. When you start it up again you just have to add money to any amount you may have in your amount so you have enough for a months service.

  • Had to close my account to stop the monthly fee, even though I own my equipment.
  • If there is money on the account the fee is $5 a month, but if you pay one month and let the month run out then it costs nothing. I turn it on for a few months and then let it shut off at the end of the month and then a few months later I pay for a month and it goes back on.
  • Are you saying pay one month, then don't pay again until the service goes off?
  • I have had my home account on hold for about 4 months and have not been charged anything. I am getting ready to call them and just cancel so I will most likely need to mail the equipment back to them. But the cost that it has been on hold has been $0
  • Note that the "Don't pay the next bill" only works with a "Dish Pay As You Go" account. With a PAYG account, you should not receive any overdue notices, although occasionally they get that wrong. A quick chat with the customer service folks should set that right though. I've only had that happen once early on.
  • You can stop PAYG in the middle of a month if you want (I don;t know why you would) and whatever is left for the month is held for you till you turn it back on. That will cost you $5 a month. That would be dumb to do in my book. I pay for a month at a time, sometimes 3 or 4 months and then when we get home I just don't pay the bill and they shut it off when the month is up. It cost nothing untill I go on line and turn it back on, by paying for another month.
  • I suspend my service every year for 4months are restart it again. They charged me $5/mo except this year which was $0. I don't know if they changed policy or screwed up. I aint asking and simply accepted the $0 charge this year. I don't know what they will do next year. BTY I have leased equipment and my 2 year contract expired 2years ago-- But I still pay the lease charge for two receivers. Maybe I will call them up and threaten to cancel to see what kind of deal they will make me now that they have no legal way to not let me cancel...
