Dish Tailgater - existing subscriber

Is the true (and only) monthly cost for using the Dish Tailgater only $7 to existing subscribers? I'm thinking about buying this system if there aren't additional costs...
Thanks

Also, you may want to hold off a little bit, Winegard is getting ready to release the Pathway x2. It is like the Tailgater only better. It will receive both DISH Eastern Arc and Western Arc satellites. The Eastern Arc sats are better suited to those of us that travel in the eastern half of the US.

Thanks for that information! I have been looking at purchasing a Tailgater but the Pathway X2 is going to suit my needs much better (spending a lot of time in the Northeast!)
  • I just purchased a tailgater on amazon it was from Beach Camera $438.00 best price I found. I did not have a lot of trouble with the old dish, but it is nice to set it down and let it do the work. But the old dish was more entertaining to other campers. I always say when setting up, some times you are entertained some times you are the entertainment. And it is $7.00 mo.

Have a question not quite on subject but close..Is there a carry out dome antenna that will support a Dish 722K DVR receiver? My understanding is that there isn't one but maybe I'm missing something. We love our 722K for the DVR feature but I hate the hassle of aiming the antenna on the tripod..sometimes takes 5 minutes other times it will be an hour. I know we can add a external hard drive but really don't want the hassle of another device and the problem of finding a place to put it. Hubby is not as anxious as I am to get the auto antenna but then he is not the person screaming numbers out the window like a crazy person!!

"In theory" the 722 would work but you are never going to be able to use it as you would at home. Since all domes contain only 1 LNB, your receiver has 2 tuners, and Dish uses 3 satellites, only if by change the 2 programs were being broadcast from the same satellite would you have a successful end result.
The other option is the Winegard Anser. This antenna can be pointed to Dish 72.7 and Dish broadcasts all of their programming from this one satellite so your 722 would work without issue. HOWEVER, there is no Network programming on 72.7 so you would need to use your OTA antenna to receive that programming.
  • I don't think so. I have a 722 and had no luck getting the second tuner working with a dome. I have a Winegard Trav'ler now, so it's no problem getting the 722 to work.

  • What lryrob9301 said is true. BUT. The Tailgater only works with a 211 receiver. So if you already have a 211 in your home, then no problem.
  • The Tailgater cost nothing to use with your subscription. Dish does not care what antenna you use to receive your subscription. The $7 is for an extra receiver like the VIP211K to use in the RV if you don't want to move one back and forth from home.

  • We have had Dish at home for many years. Added a vip211k receiver and Tailgater to the RV two years ago. And yes, it adds $7 per month to the home plan.
