Ok, let's hear about experience of Dropbox.

I have read where lots of passwords were hacked from users of Dropbox.

How do you use this software?

Does it save you time?

I use Dropbox frequently to share files on different platforms (desktop, laptop, iPad). No matter which device I'm using, all my files are there. Other free cloud servers I use are Copy.com and Amazon Cloud Drive.

My experience with Dropbox is that it is simple and easy to use and does not care what device you are using to access it. I still use the Google drive, but that is just non-photo files. Google has you save photos on Google+. I also use one drive from Micro Soft. This has proven so far to be a very simple and easy to use system that does not seem to care if you use Microsoft or Apple computers. I have not tried one drive on a mobile device or tablet so far. Google drive and Google+ are very good on android mobile devices. I also store some data and photos on Apples system. Apple is in the middle of changing their system so not sure what it will end up as. So far I have found Apples system much more confusing than Dropbox or One Drive. However, Apple did just fix their iCloud document storage system this week so that it seems to work better. And those are the ones I am currently using.

I give Dropbox a thumbs up. The photo lab that develops and scans my film pictures sends me BIG files using dropbox. Works splendidly.

I use Dropbox(DB) to share smaller files. But since DP uses Amazon AWS servers for their cloud storage, you can also use it to host web pages. Which is what I did for the Photo Upload app used for posting forum photos and images. Or for testing static webpage content in general.

The free DB account only comes with 2G storage, but there are several ways of increasing storage allowance. For instance, Samsung Galaxy owners were given 50G free for the first year when they activated their account on their smartphones. New or existing users.

Use Dropbox regularly to exchange files with friends and associates. Nothing irreplaceable or requiring security of course.

I use Google Drive as well but just for on the fly photo backup. Doesn't seem to be as easy to share using GD.

As far as local sharing goes, DW and I have access to each others' volumes so we just use Windows Explorer like for local files - no need to futz with browsers.

For tablets, there are more secure ways to transfer files.
Find the apps that use a browser and a form like this

You can directly transfer files using your router and you won't have to send files up and then down. This especially works if you have limited internet GBs.
Of course both devices need to be connected to your router(as far as I know).

I use Dropbox to automatically synchronize my ebook reading positions between my tablet, smartphone, and PC. If a hacker manages to access my account, the only thing he'll find is which book I'm currently reading and what page I'm on.

I can take a dozen photos, and upload them to Dropbox, then tell the wife the new photos have been uploaded. She can go to the shared Dropbox folder and look through the photos and then post which ever she likes to Facebook, or send to friends or ??? Makes it much easier to share photos.

If someone wants to hack into our Dropbox folder to see a picture of chipmunks or prairie dogs then that's their problem...

Google Drive, it's free and offers much more storage for free (15GB vs 2GB for Dropbox). You can use it on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS.

I work when I feel like it and will use Dropbox for videos, photos, PDFs, reports and invoices then I just send the link to my client who can download everything they want. After they get it (copy), I then take my files out and file them away in a client folder. Easy Peezy! As long as I don't keep everything I've ever done, I don't need to upgrade and pay for extra storage. I also use Dropbox to automatically download any pictures I take on my cell phone. It prevents me losing my photos if I lose my cellphone or drop it in the lake right after I catch that huge fish!

I use Boxcryptor and two factor authentication. That way, if a bad guy got my password, they will still have to figure out what the six digit code sent via SMS was. After that, they would have a directory full of encrypted files with random names and the .bc extension
