DTV in flight

I just flew home (1st class.. wow) and had Directv. I looked it up but can't find it.. how does an airplane get sat tv?
  • I recently took a few flights with DirecTV available on the seatback monitors. Hope I never have that "pleasure" again. The whole darn flight was a DirecTV commercial flashing in front of me, and on all the other screens in my view path. I couldn't pull anything else up on the monitor. There's a slightly complicated keypress sequence that turns it off, then if you brush ANY button on the armrest it comes back on.

Only xxx minutes left in your free preview.
$xx discount if you activate 3 monitors with the same credit card.
Swipe your card now. (Doesn't tell you the price of course).

Over and over, for hours on end. Highly obnoxious.

GOOD ANSWER.. Also I might add that we (on the ground) tend to use mechnicial dishes that are aimed by motors. There are faster ways to redirect an antenna.. And on an airplane they make sense. (Phasing systems)
  • Dish....just like the rest of us.
In motion dish will track while you are moving
